Footbridge Gallery brings Bexhill's unique al fresco gallery to life this Bexhill Art Weekender, with participatory art experiences for adults and children, a chance to meet some of the artists featured in the current gallery, and live entertainment from musicians and performers of all backgrounds. Children's activities include hat making, drawing, sculpture making, badge making and an eye-spy.
Among this years highlights is Miles Coote's The Portrait Maze, an art work rooted in q***r methodologies of life drawing and live art practice. Visitors sign in at the maze entrance and receive charcoal and a sand timer, then wander the maze drawing three minute portraits on its paper walls of the people they meet along the way- an ice breaker that leaves time for conversation and captures the Bexhill community in the process. Developed during a residency at Home Live Art's Greenhalf studio, this iteration of The Portrait Maze is on display at Footbridge Gallery@BAW, with the portraits archived as part of the Q***r LDC project.
The accessible, disability-friendly Youth Centre - just across the road from Footbridge Gallery - will be offering refreshments (cakes by Sandra!) and nearby parking.
