Many of our followers have contacted us to ask what should be included in the email to Wyre Forest D.C. supporting the inclusion of The Maypole in the Bewdley Conservation Area.

We thank you so much for asking but basically any email supporting this would be tremendous! 😊

Deadline 5pm Sunday 18th October 2026.

The consultation is an opportunity for local people to submit positive and constructive comments.

Possible points supporters may wish to mention include:
* The importance of Maypole Piece as a green gateway into Bewdley
* Its contribution to the town’s historic setting and character
* The value of preserving important wonderful open views and landscapes
* The historical significance of the footpath and surrounding heritage features
* The importance of considering the whole of Maypole Piece as one connected historic landscape

If you choose to comment, please keep responses polite, balanced and focused on the heritage and environmental importance of the area. Friends of the Maypole remains committed to working positively with all parties and continuing constructive dialogue about the future of the land.

Good news for Burlish Country Park 🤞

Burlish Country Park looks set to remain a public open space in Wyre Forest District Council ownership.

A Cabinet report published today, Wednesday 7 October, is recommending that land at the park is not sold.

The recommendation follows a statutory notice period that gave the public the opportunity to comment on or object to a proposal from Kidderminster Harriers FC to buy around 8.5 hectares of land next to its training ground.

We received 656 responses, including 650 objections, three responses in support and three enquiries.

The report will first be considered by the Overview and Scrutiny Committee on Thursday 15 October. Cabinet will then make the final decision on the sale at its meeting on Wednesday 21 October.

If you'd like to follow the discussion and decision-making process, both meetings will be streamed live on our website from 6pm on the day.

As we move beyond our first anniversary and with potentially a busy few months ahead of us, our team is reflecting on the progress made so far, and the organisation, team structure and skills we need going forwards.

Now, more than ever, we need the support from our community.
We are particularly looking for individuals or groups who could help with the following:
🦅 Legal knowledge
🦅 Knowledge and experience of Fundraising
🦅 Knowledge of the local area - historical and environmental
🦅 Knowledge and experience of land management
🦅 Marketing and Communications experience
🦅 Experience in Public Relations

But we also need volunteers who are willing to help with the day-to-day support, such as delivering leaflets.

Bewdley Conservation Area consultation - Maypole Piece

Maypole Piece could soon become part of the Bewdley Conservation Area, and we'd like to hear your views.

The proposal follows feedback from an earlier consultation, where many people highlighted the importance of Maypole Piece to Bewdley's history, character and landscape.

Now is your opportunity to look at the proposed boundary change, read the updated draft Conservation Area Character Appraisal and tell us what you think before a final decision is made.
