The people who understand flood risk best are often the people living with it every day.

Across England and Wales, we work alongside communities to help local people come together, share knowledge, and have a stronger voice in decisions that affect them.

We've seen first-hand how powerful communities can be when they work together. From setting up Flood Action Groups to working with local authorities and flood risk management teams, local knowledge can play a huge role in reducing flood risk and improving outcomes.

Communities shouldn't just be consulted after decisions are made β€” they should be part of the conversation from the start.

If you'd like to find out more about community engagement or Flood Action Groups, we'd love to hear from you.

Flooding can turn life upside down in a matter of hours, but the effects can last for months or even years afterwards.

What stays with those affected is everything that comes after β€” the disruption, the stress, the long recovery, and the worry about what might happen next time.

At the National Flood Forum, we’re here for people through all of it. Not just during a flood, but long after the water has gone.

We listen, we support, and we stand alongside flood-affected communities across the UK. We also work to make sure those experiences are heard where decisions are made, so things improve for the future.

If you need support, head to our website - www.nationalfloodforum.org.uk

And if you are in a position to, please donate to our cause via Just Giving or PayPal.

This week the The One Show covered the emotional story of the residents living on Clydach Terrace in south Wales.

Since the devastating floods of 2020, the Clydach Terrace community have campaigned tirelessly. Through their determination and perseverance, they have finally been offered a bittersweet resolution – the opportunity to move away from their homes and begin new chapters in homes nearby.

The residents have endured nightmarish scenes and, ever since, have lived under the constant shadow of flooding. The film features interviews with local residents and National Flood Forum CEO, Tracey Garrett, about this incredible community and their fight in the face of uncertainty.
