Today we pause and remember those who fought and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice on D-Day 1944.

We will remember them.

81 years ago, millions in the Allied nations celebrated the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Whilst fighting continued in the Far East until August, Victory in Europe Day was a significant moment in bringing an end to the global conflict.

Up and down the country people breathed a sigh of relief and took to the streets to celebrate.

Today we pay tribute to the Second World War generation, whose service and sacrifice protected the freedoms we enjoy today.

We have received the final figure for funds raised in Beverley for the 2025 Poppy Appeal.

An incredible £58,899.84 was raised during the appeal.

The Branch would like to thank the local Appeal Organiser and her team. All the volunteers who stood a post at supermarkets and Saturday Market charity stall and of course all those who donated. Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated.

Hull 4 Heroes are devastated to announce the tragic loss of our amazing friend and colleague Martin Chadburn. With guidance from Martins family and Humberside Police, please see our official statement below

Paul Matson, CEO of Hull 4 Heroes, said:

“It is extremely difficult to put into words how profoundly shocked and saddened we are at the loss of our colleague and friend, Martin Chadburn.

“Martin – a veteran of nine years’ service has been a part of Hull 4 Heroes since day one, first as a volunteer and then as an employee.

“To say he embodied the spirit and values of the charity is an understatement.

“Martin was the type of person who would drop everything to help anyone and during his time with Hull 4 Heroes, he made a real and positive difference to the lives of many veterans and former military personnel.

“He will be greatly missed by us all and we would like to offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“Although many people will be appalled and angered by Martin’s death, we ask that the police are given the time and space needed to do their job so justice can take its right and proper course. We believe that is what Martin would have wanted.”

Many veterans carry more than most of us ever see.

They’re trained to cope, to push on, to stay strong – and that can make it even harder to ask for help when things become overwhelming.

Radford (pictured left) is now raising awareness of this after his brother (pictured right) sadly took his own life. Known as JB, he was a veteran who served 18 years with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

Today, he’s sharing three simple but vital reminders for all those within the Armed Forces community

- Asking for help is not weakness

- Listening without judgement matters

- Checking in with your loved ones can save lives

If you’re a veteran and struggling, please know you are not alone – even if it feels that way right now.

If you need support, we’re here for you call us 0808 802 8080 or you can email us at [email protected]
