Hoodwinked by Tory Councillors and MPs Pretending to Be Farmers’ Friends!

It’s about time we stopped swallowing the PR fluff. For years, the Conservatives have wrapped themselves in the cosy image of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Britain’s farmers. But peel back that homespun façade and what you find isn’t loyalty to rural communities — it’s unwavering devotion to their fossil-fuel-funded backers.

While Tory MPs and councillors pose in fields for photo ops, they’re simultaneously cheering on council pension funds ploughing billions upon billions into the very fossil fuel giants whose actions are undermining the stability of farming itself. They can’t claim to defend farmers while bankrolling the industries driving climate chaos, extreme weather, and the erosion of the rural livelihoods they profess to protect.

This isn’t just hypocrisy — it’s sabotage. And farmers, like the rest of us, are paying the price for Tories being more concerned with keeping its fossil fuel friends happy than safeguarding the future of British agriculture.

Many now concerned about ability to make living in fast-changing climate after one of worst grain harvests recorded

Pension funds and asset owners are among the most influential investors in the UK and globally. With their long-term horizons and fiduciary duties, pension funds are well placed to support the transition to a net zero economy.
