Thank you to all our wildlife guides of amphibia, butterflies, bees, bumblebees, bugs, trees... for hosting a brilliant Great Big Nature Hunt as part of Berkhamsted's , and events.

The feedback from the visiting families/children is so positive: when asked for their favourite thing of the day they said: ‘bugs, making [butterfly] masks, making the bees, the pond was amazing, bug sweeping, learning about the trees, tadpoles, bumble bees, bees, making a mask, pond creatures’ and lastly ‘every single station, loved it!’

Just over 30 families came along on the day and two thirds of those had not visited the cemetery before so now they know what a wonderful wildlife haven it is. The weather was so much better than we were anticipating, which meant that some butterflies were flying, the bumbles were certainly out and there were lots of interesting discoveries from the sweep netting the long grass. Thrilling for us was the discovery of so much life in our very own ponds this year. Visitors were inspired by meeting the bees to buy some of the spring harvest too.

It was great to have Anne's plant sale raising funds for the cemetery – and the sunflower seedlings were a hit too with 15 children taking one away to grow on to the tallest they can get it. The craft stall had some very dedicated attendees making marvellous creations, and everyone – guides and visitors – could be refreshed from our friendly team. Vital funds were raised from the event – a combination of plant sales, honey sales, donations and refreshments. A brilliant morning, all told!
