💙 Happy Volunteers’ Week! 💙

This week, we want to say a huge thank you to every volunteer and leader who gives their time, energy, enthusiasm and care to Girlguiding.

Whether you’re planning meetings, organising events, supporting adventures, keeping things running behind the scenes, or simply being there to encourage and inspire our girls, your dedication makes an incredible difference. You help create safe spaces where girls can grow in confidence, discover new opportunities, build friendships and realise their potential.

Your kindness, patience, creativity and commitment do not go unnoticed. Every badge earned, every challenge overcome, every smile shared and every memory made is possible because of volunteers like you.

Thank you for everything you do, not just during Volunteers’ Week, but every week of the year. We are so grateful to have such an amazing community of leaders and volunteers helping girls know they can do anything.

🎥🐾 GIRLGUIDING: A DOCUMENTARY (PROBABLY)

**A gripping tale of courage, chaos, and slightly sticky craft tables**

📢 Narrator voice:
“Here, in the bustling habitat known as the Guide Hall, we observe the remarkable species known as ‘The Guides.’”

They move in herds.
They communicate using complex calls such as:
“Can I be first?”
“Where’s my badge?”
and
“She looked at me weird.”

🪺 Cut to the Leaders:
Tired, majestic creatures who survive on tea, leftover biscuits, and pure stubborn optimism. Their natural enemies include wet tents, missing permission slips, and the phrase “I forgot my uniform.”

🧪 In their environment, various rare behaviours can be witnessed:
• The sudden migration toward snacks
• A spontaneous synchronised dance routine for absolutely no reason
• Elaborate crafting rituals involving glitter (a substance scientists still can’t remove from clothing)
• The construction of shelters from cardboard, string, and a touch of hope
• Debates over which marshmallow is “the perfect level of burnt”

🌧️ Weather conditions:
Regardless of season, Guides will declare they are both “too hot” and “too cold” within the same five minutes.

🍫 Diet:
Primarily hot chocolate, carefully rationed biscuits, and whatever Leaders can smuggle to camp without being discovered.

🌟 And yet…
Despite the noise, and the occasional fire drill triggered by toast… something extraordinary happens.

Girls build confidence.
Friendships form.
Laughter echoes.
And tiny moments of courage turn into big moments of growth.

🎬 Final narration:
“And so, the Guiding season continues - a beautiful, unpredictable dance of learning, leadership, and the eternal search for the missing scissors.”

💙 If you’ve ever wondered what Girlguiding is really like…

This is your behind-the-scenes documentary.
Raw. Real. Ridiculous.
And completely magical.

💚 Life with a Guide Leader: A Survival Guide for Their Partners 💚

A typical day as the partner of a Guide Leader:
• A mysterious voice in the distance goes: “Ooooh, it’s Mr Brown Owl!” 🦉 You have no idea who Mr Brown Owl is, but apparently he’s very important.

• The garage is now expertly stocked with shelves and “just in case” supplies you didn’t even know existed: rope, compasses, first aid kits… and yes, a suspicious number of glow sticks. ✨

• Random objects around the house have suddenly taken on entirely new purposes: broom handles become hiking poles 🏞️, laundry baskets double as badge-sorting stations, and that old colander? Suddenly essential for campfire cooking. 🍲

• Quiet weekends are a myth. Instead, weekends are you Googling: “How many marshmallows are too many marshmallows?” 😅

• Questions you never expected at 8 AM: “Do geese have feelings?” 🦢 “Will spaghetti work for knot practice?” 🍝 You start wondering “Wait, what’s a ‘badge workshop’ and why is it on a Saturday?” Suddenly, you’re scouring the kitchen like Indiana Jones 🕵️‍♂️ for 47 bottle caps.

• Glitter becomes a permanent fixture in your life. Carpets, clothes, hair—nothing is safe. ✨

And yet… through all the chaos, the randomness, and the occasional midnight campfire planning session 🔥, you can’t help but be impressed. Your Guide Leader is shaping amazing girls, spreading kindness, and keeping life endlessly interesting. 💖

💡 Partner survival tip: Keep chocolate 🍫 handy, embrace the randomness, and accept that anything can become a camp tool. And maybe, just maybe, memorize a few badge names. 🎖️

✨ We want to hear from you! Partners of Guide Leaders—what’s the funniest or most random moment you’ve witnessed? Share in the comments! 😄
