Open door policies isn’t kind.
Answering calls and Whatsapps all evening isn’t kind.
Being constantly accessible isn’t kind.
Being the office therapist isn’t kind.
Being the keeper of office secrets isn’t kind.
Always being the listening ear isn’t kind.
Taking on others work all of the time isn’t kind.
Being the ‘hero’ all the time isn’t kind.
Being a people pleaser isn’t kind.
For many, it is unhealed childhood wounds playing out in the workplace.
It is codependency disguised as ‘being a good person’.
It is people pleasing and fawning disguised as ‘doing the right thing’.
It is hero complex disguised as ‘expertise’.
It is the fast lane to burnout and misery.
The harsh reality for many unconscious rescuers is that you are creating a disempowering culture and dynamic. You are stunting the growth of your people and calling it ‘support’.
Understanding your subconscious wounds and behaviours is VITAL in Leadership development. Long gone are the days of just studying Leadership models of excellence. The excellence lays within you. It is unearthed with you have the courage to dig deep in the darkness to find the gold.
More than ever, we are recognising that your history will always impact your now if you let it govern your subconscious. No more can we simply say ‘leave your personal stuff at the door’ - your relational trauma will happily gatecrash without an invite.
It is why we now dedicate our work to work with leaders 1:1 and in groups to better understand their shadow Self and begin to step into their most authentic and healthy Leadership.
