🌊 How Deep Is Your Love? A journey into the mysterious deep ocean 🎬

Join Transition Belper at The Ritz Cinema on Wednesday 4 November at 8.15pm for a special screening of How Deep Is Your Love?, directed by Eleanor Mortimer.

Dive 5,000 metres beneath the Pacific Ocean with a group of marine biologists discovering extraordinary creatures that look as though they belong on another planet. But this remarkable underwater world is under threat from the growing interest in deep-sea mining.

With dazzling footage and fascinating discoveries, the film explores what we stand to lose as the race to mine the ocean floor gathers pace.

🎤 Stay afterwards for a discussion with Henry Bennett, an experienced scuba diver, former collaborator with deep-sea mining equipment manufacturers and passionate environmentalist.

Come along to Belper Community Hall today, Sunday 11 October, from 10.30am to 2pm for a free community event celebrating Chris Ring’s memory and his love of apples, which he shared so generously with our community.

There’s something for everyone to enjoy!

🍎 Apple Bake Competition – Bring your favourite apple bake by 11am and enter the competition to be crowned Belper’s Best Apple Bake!

🌳 Apple identification – Bring your mystery apples along between 10.30am and 11.30am for expert identification with Jeff Bates.

🧑‍🍳 Workshops and talks – Discover fire c***r vinegar and how to make apple c***r vinegar with Rose Dawson at 11am, then join our 1pm talk on fun ways to preserve the harvest.

🍏 Apple tasting and voting – Sample different varieties and vote for your favourite!

🎨 Games, crafts, juicing and dehydrating – Get hands-on and explore all things apple.

🍰 Homemade treats and refreshments – Our kitchen will be open, serving delicious apple treats and refreshments.

🌱 Share your surplus apples – Bring along any spare windfall or picked apples to share with the event and wider community.

Whether you're an apple enthusiast, a keen baker or just fancy a lovely community morning, we'd love to see you there!

Seriously. We’re in trouble.

Can you help secure the future of Transition Belper?

For over a decade, Transition Belper has brought people together to create positive change in our community. From Belper Goes Green and community projects like the Repair Cafe to practical environmental action and supporting local initiatives, everything we do is made possible by volunteers.

Today, we're at a crossroads.

Our current team of Directors has become very small, and several members are stepping down. Unless new people come forward to join the Board, Transition Belper may not be able to continue operating.

We're looking for people who care about Belper and want to help shape its future.

You don't need previous experience of being a director or trustee, and you don't need to be an environmental expert. We're simply looking for people with enthusiasm, fresh ideas and a willingness to work with others.

The Board meets every 4-6 weeks, and there's plenty of support available as you settle into the role. Whether you can help with governance, communications, finance, coordinating projects or simply bringing a new perspective, we'd love to hear from you.

Our AGM takes place on Thursday 16 July at 7pm at Number 28, Market Place, Belper, and we'd encourage anyone who is even slightly interested to come along for a chat.

This is an opportunity to help guide the next chapter of Transition Belper - but it's also a genuine call for support. Without new Directors, we face the difficult prospect of winding down an organisation that has made a real difference to our community.

If you've ever thought, "I'd like to get involved one day," that day is now.

The time has finally arrived - Belper Goes Green starts today at 6pm at Belper Meadows Cricket Club! 🌱

Over the next three days (5–7 June), the festival brings together everything Belper does best: community, creativity, and a shared commitment to a greener future. Expect a packed weekend of live music, inspiring talks, hands-on workshops, crafts, great food, and a brilliant CAMRA real ale & c***r festival.

Organised by volunteers from Transition Belper, it’s more than just a festival, it’s about sharing practical, positive ways we can all reduce our impact on the planet, while celebrating local talent and community spirit.

Whether you’re coming for the music, the food, the family-friendly activities, or the eco ideas, there’s something for everyone.

Tickets are £5.50 for the weekend.

Thrivemind Village is a volunteer-led community food hub based in Derby, bringing together growers, surplus food, shared meals and community care to explore what a more regenerative local food system could look like.

We want Belper Goes Green to be as accessible and inclusive as possible, which is why we're delighted to be working with Belper Community Transport this year.

A wheelchair-accessible vehicle (WAV) will be available to help visitors travel to and from the festival on:
