A huge thank you to all the children and parents of St Mary’s for their fantastic fundraising efforts in support of the Bellaghy Camogs at the Féile. We are incredibly proud of the girls and all they have achieved. Wishing them the very best of luck – enjoy every moment!

Invitation to Bellaghy Bawn, Community Engagement Event - Thursday 18th of June, 1pm-3.30pm

Historic Environment Division (HED) are pleased to announce we are hosting a community engagement session regarding heritage interpretation at Bellaghy Bawn on Thursday 18th of June. This session will begin with a tour of Bellaghy Bawn at 1pm followed by a meeting at Old School House Castle, Street Bellaghy between 2pm-3.30pm.

Heritage interpretation involves various methods of conveying information to the public about the significance of historical places. Its primary goal is to help visitors understand and appreciate the meanings behind these places, fostering a deeper connection between communities and their heritage. This process is essential in heritage spaces, where it enhances the experience of visitors by blending education, storytelling, and communication.

This session will allow members of the local community to hear about the themes and stories that we hope to tell through the heritage interpretation in Bellaghy Bawn.

We know that the local knowledge of the Bawn is well understood so we want to ensure that the content and delivery of the interpretation align with what the local community values and needs.

People are welcome to come for all or part of the day.

Tour: A brief tour of the Bawn -Bellaghy Bawn – please note that the bawn has been gutted to allow for the much-needed conservation work.
Presentation: Tandem Design will deliver a short presentation on the themes and stories that the interpretation will focus on. – The Old School House
Participation. We would love to hear if you feel there has been anything left out. Next, we will give everyone a number of stickers. We will display the topics, themes and stories around the room and ask people to vote for them by adding a sticker to the topics and themes that they most want to hear about. This is also a chance to have a cup tea and a biscuit and talk to us more generally about the interpretation.

We do need to plan for numbers, so I would be grateful if you could let me know if you can attend. Please do feel free to contact me if you have any queries.

Kindest regards

Bronagh
