📣 CONSTRUCTION SURVEY RESULTS 📣
Watch David Fry and Vincent Lundy discuss the latest findings from the CEF Construction Survey covering the first 6 months of 2026 🎥
The survey, which collected data from NI-headquartered firms which have a collective annual turnover of approximately £3.5 billion pounds is the largest industry-specific snapshot of the current performance of the construction sector and reflects on many of the key challenges that contractors, civil engineers and homebuilders are currently facing.
🔵 75% of respondents report flat or declining profit margins.
🔵 95% of local firms report an increase in materials costs by up to 25%.
The industry's top four priorities for the NI Executive as we approach the 2027 Assembly election are:
🔵 A legally binding commitment to ensure NI Water is fully funded.
🔵 An agreed budget for 2026/27 with a multi-year budget to be agreed to 2030 and in place immediately after the election.
🔵 For the Assembly to use powers it already has to raise revenue and grow its own budget - including bringing forward an Infrastructure Levy.
🔵 To commence work on an ambitious Planning and Infrastructure Bill which seeks to address our broken planning system.
The message from our construction industry is clear: the next NI Executive must deliver a step-change in how it meets the critical challenges facing our sector.
