There is still time to apply for the role of Access and Inclusion Coordinator at University of Atypical. We are looking for someone to support the delivery of a range of access-related activities: responding to accessibility requests from D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people; contacting access service providers; maintaining databases of interpreters, audio describers, captioners, and so on; assisting with the Arts and Disability Access Awards and providing guidance to arts and culture organisations; coordinating UofA’s agreement with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

They will work closely with a friendly and productive team, and will report directly to and support the Access and Inclusion Manager.

University of Atypical for Arts and Disability is delighted to share news about our 2026 Graduate Award recipient from the Belfast School of Art. The artist who was selected for the 2026 Award is Peter Carrington, who graduates from the Fine Art Master’s degree this summer. Peter specialised in print making during his bachelors degree at Ulster University.

His work now centres around mixed media sculpture, focusing on ideas around play, gender, domesticity and home. We look forward to getting to know him better over the next year as he works towards his solo exhibition in the Atypical Gallery during May and June 2027.

We have made the decision to close the Atypical Gallery and office early today to ensure our staff can get home safely. Staff can still be contacted by email during their normal working hours.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers for Volunteer Week. Our volunteers are a very important part of our team and we appreciate all their time and effort in supporting our events. Summer Accessibility Programme over 4 days in July and August 2026

This course was created as a response to requests to learn and get best practice right for and with disabled people.

The 4 day summer programme in accessibility, is for professionals, students and freelancers working in arts, community, cultural, and voluntary sectors.

You will develop a strong grasp of the life experiences of disabled people, of disability as a rights issue, and above all, learn how to address accessibility issues that you encounter every day. Each of the four days will be led by expert facilitators with lived experience of the topics.

The rate for 4 full days is £300 for 1 person from a Belfast-based organisation.

We also have special rates of £260 for 1 person from an organisation based outside of Belfast, and £150 for individuals (for example, students or freelancers).

When: 21 and 28 July, 18 and 25 August. 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.

The Atypical Gallery will be open for late night art for our 2025 Graduate Award exhibition, Anima, Part 1 by Anna Vidamour. The exhibition will finish on Tuesday 23 June. The gallery is open from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm from Tuesdays to Fridays.

Anna Vidamour is also the PS² graduate-in-residence for 2025/26. The second part of the work, Animus, is also opening for Late Night Art on Thursday 4 June in PS². The two exhibitions present opposites, focusing on socially-constructed ideas around masculine and feminine characteristics. We encourage you to visit both shows between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
