Belfast And Lisburn Community Project (BALCProject) offers volunteer positions primarily focused on supporting homeless individuals, vulnerable families, and people in crisis.
Common Volunteer Roles
Charity Shop Assistant: Help run the Walk INN Charity Shop by sorting and pricing donated items, serving customers, and processing sales.
Outreach Volunteer: Join street outreach teams, sometimes requiring a driving license to deliver essential items like sleeping bags and rucksacks to rough sleepers.
Fundraising Ambassador: Raise money and plan community events to support the organization's work with vulnerable people.
Project Support: Assist with drop-in sessions, food bank operations, and community meals.
Specialist & Advisory Roles
Housing Adviser / Benefits Adviser: Support individuals and families transitioning out of crisis and helping them move into independent living.
Mental Health Advice & Support: Help individuals dealing with the psychological impacts of homelessness, isolation, or substance use.
Professional Pro-Bono Support: The project frequently looks for certified professionals willing to donate their time, including Solicitors, Nurses, and Psychologists.
Operations & Logistics
Social Supermarket Floor Assistant: Help manage stock, assist community members, and run the day-to-day operations at the Bubble Mall Social Supermarket. Store Stocktaking & Warehouse Support: Organize, log, and manage incoming food and clothing donations to ensure everything is accounted for.
Food Delivery & Collection Drivers: Pick up bulk food donations from suppliers or drop off emergency parcels directly to families in crisis.
Maintenance Worker / Handyman: Provide practical assistance with building maintenance, setting up shelters, or repairing community spaces.
Digital & Remote Roles
Online Ambassador / Marketing Support: Help manage their digital campaigns, design promotional materials, or spread awareness on social media.
Online Sales Support: Sort through specialized or high-value donations to list and sell them online to maximize charity revenue.
Requirements and Getting Involved
Most of our roles involve direct contact with children or vulnerable groups and may require an AccessNI check.
