Equality Can’t Wait, are a group of families campaigning for social housing in Belfast supported by human rights organisation PPR. Since 2009, two United Nations bodies, the Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner, the NI Children’s Commissioner and the NI Human Rights Commission have criticised the ongoing religious i

nequality in housing in Belfast. In 2014, 49 MLAs (Sinn Féin, SDLP, Alliance, Green Party, UUP and NI21) including five Executive Ministers signed pledges to ‘use all of their powers’ to tackle housing inequality. But inequality and homelessness are still on the rise. In 2015, homeless families identified the available land for housing across Belfast and got the support of the Chief Executives of the NI Federation of Housing Associations and the NI Housing Executive to build on the land, but nothing has happened.
