It's almost August (already??) and time to share our repair cafe dates for the month ahead. Seven brilliant opportunities to get something fixed, save money, cut waste and pick up repair skills along the way. Full details at the link below ⬇🛠🧵

Not only are repair cafes helping people with their broken stuff, we are bringing people together, forging new connections and making our communities stronger. Our groups are volunteer-powered and we'd love to hear from you if you'd like to get involved in fixing or helping with organising, publicity or refreshments.

Repair Cafes are set up and run by local people, and we are excited there are more communities preparing to launch repair cafes soon - watch this space! We can support every step of the way - get in touch for an initial chat if there isn't a group near you and you'd like to be involved in starting something.

We’ve hit a huge milestone. Repair Cafes in Northern Ireland have saved 100 tonnes of climate emissions up to July 2026. Not too shabby for a network of local people, popping up once a month or two in a hall near you, with their screwdrivers, sewing machines and shortbread.

We hear at every event how repairing items makes a huge difference to the people who own them - restoring cherished things, keeping their households functioning and reducing what they need to buy.

And we know it makes a massive difference to communities - holding space where everyone is welcome, for people to meet, to share skills and build connections.

When you get something fixed, you are also doing something amazing for the planet. All the materials, energy and transport impacts of manufacturing a replacement thing don’t need to happen. We know the way we are living and consuming is way beyond what nature and the climate can sustain. Repair cuts waste, consumption and climate emissions - it’s a practical, local, affordable action we can all take today to move towards a more sustainable, resilient society.

We’d LOVE you to be a part of it - because it all adds up. Volunteer with your local repair cafe - we need help with admin, baking and publicity as well as fixing. Get a few people together and set up a repair cafe in your community if there isn’t one nearby - we will help you every step of the way. And keep coming to repair cafes with your broken things - we always do our best to help and advise. Together, we are doing something amazing to make a difference. Thank you.

No holidays for the keen beans at Repair Café Carryduff. They are back in action this Saturday from 10-12.30pm at St Joseph's Parish Hall, Knockbraken Road and they can't wait to help you with your broken things!

Things may slow down a little during the summer, but some of our Repair Cafe groups are still hard at work, giving their communities the chance to repair broken items.

🔧 With the outdoor season at its peak, it's no surprise that hand tools are among the most common non-powered items brought to Repair Cafe events.

So far, 571 hand tools have been looked at across our network, with an impressive 96% repair success rate, that's 548 tools repaired and back in use! 🙌

A huge thank you to the passion, skills, and dedication of our wonderful volunteers, who help keep valuable items in use and out of landfill.

☀️ We hope you're all enjoying the summer as much as possible!

We've certainly been making the most of it by attending inspiring events, such as the The Environmental Gathering a few weeks ago. It was a wonderful day, full of amazing people active in their community and a fantastic opportunity for us to make new connections, share ideas, and raise awareness of the growing repair movement that we are all building together across Northern Ireland.

Every conversation helps spread the message on the importance of repairing and making our communities stronger.

🌱 The latest global Repair Cafe survey highlights just how powerful the repair movement has become:

- 89,000 volunteers
- 60,000 Repair Cafe events each year
- 1.6 million items brought in for repair annually

These are impressive numbers, showing the incredible impact Repair Cafes have, but not forgetting the challenges that these community led groups all face.

It's great to be part of a movement that keeps growing and becoming stronger! 💪

Repair Cafes are spaces where volunteers can shadow more experienced repairers, pick up practical skills, and grow in confidence.

Another brilliant First Aid session with the British Red Cross was delivered for our Repair Cafe volunteers.

Our instructor, Gary, led a highly informative session while creating a relaxed and engaging atmosphere, refreshing or learning first aid skills and at the same time having a bit of good craic together.

A huge thank you to the Co-Centre Climate, Biodiversity & Water space at Queen’s University for providing such a welcoming venue for the session.
