WHAT WE BELIEVE

THE YOUTH WORKERS, COMMUNITY WORKERS AND SUPPORT STAFF AT EMPIRE ARE UNITED IN THEIR BELIEF THAT ALL CHILDREN:

Have the power to learn
Are curious & creative
Can succeed

No two youth have exactly the same skills or learning style. That’s why we create an individual learning plan for every child. Your plan will combine direct instruction, small-group work. EMPIRE COMMUNITY CE

NTRE
Empire Community Centre was started in 1981 by Thomas Wilson M.B.E. before the Empire Community Centre was here, it was located on Midge Park and was named “Donegall Road Community Centre” in 1981 it moved to 337b Donegall Road were it still is today…

When it was opened in 1981 by Alderman John Carson it was old garage just off Donegall Road and it was in bad shape it was in words falling apart, there was a lot of Red bills coming in and no way of paying for them we had no funders and were totally indepenent. In 1983 we were officially funded by Belfast City Council we got a refurbishment in 1985 this consisted of front being extended as it was before the community Centre an old garage still with tarmac floors, kitchen and boys and girls bathroom built, front entrance door (as previously the only way in and out was through a hole in the wall) new lighting and disco lights (previously there were 2, 50 watt bulbs) new pool table a table tennis table, electric fires were also installed. In 1996 the Centre was funded money for 4 new computers these computer were Windows 95. We had these computers up to 2009 when BBC Children in need funded us 8 new pc windows 7 Acers. In 2014 the Community Centre got funding alongside GVRT – FIT 4 LIFE Centre from BRO – this was a capital fund for refurbishment. The Centre closed it doors for 3 months for the refurbishment to take place this consisted of:

New kitchen
New floor
Front building painted
New Fire doors
New emergency lighting
New intercom & Security camera
Gas central heating
LED Lighting

In 2015 we got funding from Northern Ireland Community Foundation for Northern Ireland
