On Monday night, terrible events unfolded in North Belfast and our thoughts remain with the victim and their family, as well as those who may have witnessed this event, including the emergency services, the local community and first responders.

Last night, we saw horrific examples of violence and intimidation across Belfast and beyond.

We know that some people will seek to exploit this situation to further their own agendas. We cannot equivocate in situations like this: violence, intimidation and threats of all kinds are unacceptable.

These incidents will leave many people feeling shaken, anxious and uncertain. But for some, these fears run even deeper and are shaped by their own past experiences, especially where people have been targeted simply because of their race. We've seen this before, and we cannot allow it to happen again.

Today and in the coming days, the criminal justice system must be allowed to deal with and respond to these incidents. Responding to violence with violence is a well-trodden and destructive road here, and we must all use our personal, social and political influence to ensure people are safe and communities remain stronger together.

The Community Foundation stand with all of those who have been impacted by these events, and encourage people to seek information and support from reputable and trusted sources. Now more than ever, we need to hold onto what strengthens us: compassion, respect, inclusion and a shared commitment to peace.

JOINT STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVES OF NORTHERN IRELAND HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

We are deeply concerned and appalled at the violence which we are witnessing in our communities.

It is completely unacceptable that our international staff, who provide an invaluable service, should be intimidated or feel too frightened to come to work.

The current unrest is having a profound impact on all of our services, which are already under enormous strain.

All the Trusts are trying to operate as normally as possible but the disruption is making this increasingly difficult.

As Chief Executives, we value every single member of our staff, who are trying to care for vulnerable people, both in our hospitals and in the community every day.

The safety of our patients, service users and our staff is paramount.

It is imperative that everyone who works across our Health and Social Care Service, including Care Homes, Community Pharmacies, Home Care and Primary Care, are able to provide essential care to everyone that needs it, without fear or intimidation.

We would like to sincerely thank all our staff for their continued dedication, in really difficult circumstances.

"This is our Health" a major public engagement programme led by the Department of Health NI and supported by the Public Health Agency and HSC partners.

This programme represents an important opportunity to engage directly with people across Northern Ireland in shaping a shared approach to health and wellbeing.

At its core is a commitment to listening—to understanding what helps people stay well, what they need from services, and how we can all work together to support healthier lives in our communities.
