In 1998 just 14% of MLAs were women, that figure has increased to 40% in 2025 and 7 of the 12 Ireland Executive Ministers are female.

On as we celebrate our former and current women MLAs, our work continues to towards full gender parity 💜🙌

Today we are marking International Women's Day. At the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158, to reach full gender parity, according to data from the World Economic Forum. Accelerate Action is a worldwide call to acknowledge strategies, resources, and activities that positively impact women's advancement.

Our Youth Assembly Rights and Equality Committee will be issuing a survey about young women’s rights in schools on 18 March. Make sure you have your voice heard by taking part in our survey once it’s released!

What a fantastic event! Thanks to our Women's Parliament Panel for their work in co-designing the event, to the 1200 people who responded to the public consultation to determine the issues to be discussed, to the Ministers and MLAs who attended and listened, and of course to the fantastic speakers who highlighted their lived experiences and outlined the solutions that are needed. If you missed it, watch it here: https://www.niassembly.gov.uk/visit-and-learning/get-involved/womens-parliament/

Thank you to all those who worked to organise and contribute to today's very successful Women's Parliament.

A special thanks to today's inspiring speakers for sharing their experiences and for eloquently highlighting the key issues and concerns impacting women across Northern Ireland.
