The Old Campbellian Society

The Old Campbellian Society The Old Campbellian Society exists to build and sustain a community of engaged Old Campbellians, past, present and future.

The Old Campbellian Society exists to build and sustain a community of engaged Old Campbellians, tied to each other and the school for the benefit of all Campbellians, past, present and future. Almost all past pupils of Campbell are eligible for membership of the society and most are automatically afforded membership on leaving the school. There are currently 5287 members of the Old Campbellian So

ciety spanning 4 generations. If you are an Old Campbellian but are not yet connected with the Society we would be delighted to hear from you; please visit www.theoldcampbelliansociety.co.uk and complete the on-line form in the 'update your details section' and if you know the whereabouts of any Lost OC please contact us. As the Society exists for the benefit of all Campbellians, past present and future we continue to run many events throughout the year, including events locally and in Dublin, Edinburgh and London. On an annual basis the Society:
•Hosts the annual Halloween Dance, a black tie dinner dance open to Old Campbellians, parents of Campbellians, and invited guests.
•Hosts the annual Old Campbellian Dinner, with representatives from many generations of Old Campbellians and invited guests.
•Hosts 25 year reunion dinners, reuniting Old Campbellians with each other and the school.
•Hosts golf events at Royal Belfast and the K Club.
•Hosts an annual Boxing Day rugby fixture versus Civil Service RFC.
•Supports Campbellians through scholarship schemes, enabling international exchange visits.
•Reconnects Old Campbellians with each other and the school.
•Publishes a 60+ page colour magazine celebrating the achievements and anecdotes of Old Campbellians across the globe. For the future, as the Society continues to move from strength to strength, we intend to increase our ability to give something back to the school that binds us all, strengthening the links with Campbell, future Old Campbellians and their parents. Forthcoming projects will focus on increasing a connected membership, business links and fundraising to enable the Society to achieve its purpose, supporting the school and society members. To this end the Council are extremely keen to hear from any Old Campbellians and parents of current Campbellians who may be able to help with any aspect of the Society's work. The Society is directed on behalf of its members by a Council currently consisting of 29 Council Members, all of whom are Old Campbellians. The Society is supported by the Society Manager (Walter Murphy) who works tirelessly for the benefit of all members. The Council delivers support to the school and members through several Sub Committees. Each of these Sub Committees is led by a member of the Council and supported by a range of Campbellian parents and Old Campbellians. If you would like to become involved please contact the Society Office in the first instance.

OCs Luther McIlveen and Paddy Dally were selected and were coached by our school coach Callum Grieve, with Ollie Dyer and Alex Taylor involved in recording stats.

Thanks to current pupils Oscar and William who volunteered to help at the event.

Northern Ireland finished just outside the medal rankings at fourth. Well done all!!

Tomorrow Campbell College Cricket 1st XI take on RBAI cricket at CCB. Best of luck to all involved

Today OC President M Cooper shared the following message to the team

Dear Seb & Members of the 1st XI,

I write to you today to wish you every success and the very best of luck in your Schools’ Cup Final against RBAI on Friday at the College.

You have earned your place in this Final following a fine seven-wicket Semi-Final victory over Sullivan, and I have no doubt that our old rivals, RBAI, will provide another strong and worthy challenge.

To represent the College in a Schools’ Cup Final and to compete for the Ferguson Grainger Cup is a tremendous honour. It is an opportunity granted to very few, and one that will stay with you long after the final wicket has been taken and the noise of the crowd has faded.

For some of you, this may be the final time you wear the College colours on the sporting field. For others, it may be the start of a lifelong journey in the game. Whatever the future holds, remember that you will always be part of the proud history and tradition of Campbell College cricket, and the Old Campbellian Society will always take great pride in your achievements.

Last year, we were deeply saddened by the loss of a Master, friend, colleague, and a truly remarkable Honorary Old Campbellian. As you take to the field, I ask that you play with the same respect, passion, courage and dignity that characterised both the sport and the life of Mr John McKinney. In doing so, you will honour his memory in the best possible way.

Do not see the Campbell College jersey as a burden or the expectations that accompany it as pressure. Instead, let it give you confidence. Wear it with pride, knowing that Old Campbellians around the world will be standing behind you, supporting you and cheering you on every step of the way.

Gentlemen, embrace the occasion and enjoy the privilege of playing in such an important match. Remember to thank your families, coaches and support staff who have helped prepare you for this moment. Trust each other, play together, and give everything for your team. Respect your opponents and the umpire, meet the challenge with determination, and we know you will represent the College with pride.

This is your moment. Play with pride. Play for one another. Play for the College.

On behalf of the Old Campbellian Society, I wish you every success and the very best of luck.

Today on the 82nd Anniversary of D Day we pause to remember all who took part in this campaign. We remember OC OC 2059 Major Eric Johnston who landed by glider with 1 Ulster Rifles.

Eric attended Campbell College from September 1925 until 1933 when he joined the Army. He was in the school Shooting VIII 1932-1933 and was a member of the British school shooting team that competed at the Canadian Ottawa Bisley, 1932.

He survived the landing but was sadly killed on 22 August 1944. Further details can be found here https://www.britishnormandymemorial.org/normandy-story/eric-francis-johnston/

In 2023 members of the Bugles Pipes and Drums visited his grave as part of their Battlefield pilgrimage. Ne Obliviscaris

The OC Society held its Annual Dinner last night at the College with over 170 Old Campbellians attending.

The dinner was dedicated to the memory of John McKinney (Hon OC) who sadly passed away in December 2025.

Guest Speaker was Mr Tyrone Howe, former Ulster and Irish rugby player and member of the British & Irish Lions and current Headmaster of Shiplake College.

It was great to catch up with so many old friends and to make new ones.

Thanks to Posh Nosh for the excellent food and to Mr Anderson for allowing us to use Campbell College as our venue. Thanks also to Mr Harper and his staff for making it all work!
