MACS Supporting Children & Young People

MACS Supporting Children & Young People Our Vision is to End Youth Homelessness in Northern Ireland Our core services are Supported Housing, Floating Support and Wellbeing.

We provide a range of support services for children and young people aged 16-25 years who haven’t had a fair deal. They may be experiencing a range of issues including:
- homelessness or at risk of homelessness
- substance abuse
- mental health difficulties
- anti-social behaviour
- leaving care
- self-harm and/or suicidal thoughts
- marginalised and at risk

We also work in the areas of highest d

eprivation across Belfast, Lisburn Newry and Downpatrick(based on national deprivation indicators for Northern Ireland). In 2019-20, we worked with almost 1000 young people, helping them improve outcomes in at least one or all of the above issues.

When people think about homelessness, they often picture someone sleeping rough. The reality for many children and young people is very different.

Understanding the realities of youth homelessness helps break down stigma, challenge misconceptions and ensure more children and young people get the support they need.

If you are worried about yourself or a young person you know, support is available. Visit the Get Help section of our website to find out more or check out our blog on myths vs fact- https://www.macsni.org/myth-vs-fact/

Another great week at our Upstream x Space to Grow Summer Scheme!

Our young people got creative making their own pinch pots and enjoyed the chance to try something new. We also headed to Prison Island for an afternoon of interactive challenges, where everyone worked together to solve puzzles, and have plenty of fun along the way.

It's been fantastic to see friendships grow, confidence build and so many young people getting stuck into new experiences this summer!

A huge thank you to Conor, one of our sessional workers in Lisburn, who recently completed a 10K and raised funds for MACS.

Conor said the support from the young people and staff in Lisburn kept him going every step of the way!

Fundraising like this helps us continue supporting children and young people across Northern Ireland, providing safe places, trusted relationships and the support they need to build brighter futures.

Every challenge taken on and every pound raised helps us be there when were needed most.

We had a fantastic day supporting the Upper and Lower North Family Support Hubs at their recent Family Fun Day.

Our Space to Grow team hosted four interactive activity stations, giving children and families the opportunity to explore their emotions, develop positive thinking skills and practise positive affirmations.

A big thank you to the Upper and Lower North Family Support Hubs for inviting us along. It was a brilliant day!

We are delighted to announce a new three-year partnership with Rathbones , who will provide £27,750 in funding to support the launch of a new mental health service for young people supported by MACS.

Following Rathbones' Christmas carol service in support of MACS last December, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make this possible.

This funding will help ensure young people can access vital counselling and mental health support when they need it most. Thank you to everyone at Rathbones for choosing to support MACS and the children and young people we work alongside.

If your company is interested in championing the children and young people we support, we would love to hear from you.

Independence doesn't happen overnight, it's built one skill at a time.

In our Supported Housing service, we help young people learn the everyday things many of us take for granted, from budgeting and cooking to paying bills and applying for jobs. Every new skill builds confidence, helping young people take the next step towards living independently.

It's not just about finding a home. It's about giving young people the tools to thrive on their own terms.
