St John Ambulance North Belfast Ambulance Unit had a quieter weekend of duties compared to the long days of last weekend's Feile. We worked with our colleagues at St. John Ambulance NI Antrim. at the Grand Prix Motocross, Nutts Corner. We covered the Funday at Allstate and John and AJ had fun at the Belfast Ukulele Jam (well, we think they did)!! 🫩πŸͺ•πŸŽ§
Monday Training -
And so it was back at the Unit for Monday training. It's so important to keep our skills current and levels high, but not easy for our trainers to think of ways to keep us interested week in and week out. Well, we can honestly say they're doing a great job πŸ‘πŸ˜„ As we continue with our 'Trauma' theme we held our 'Team Olympics' πŸ˜‚
Four teams, 3 exercises all based around SAFELY getting a casualty into the ambulance using various pieces of equipment πŸš‘ and finishing with a round of CPR. The quickest team to finish were the winners and penalties were given for mistakes!! Well done to team 'Munster' who won the challenge πŸ₯‰πŸŽ‰ A big thanks to Aaron, Chris, Phil, Mark and Jaele for keeping us right! πŸ‘πŸš‘πŸ˜‚

Monday Training - Car crash Trauma.
We're doing a series of training evenings covering casualty trauma. This week our Paramedic Aimee McKinley carried out an amazing presentation on dealing with car crash casualties. Thanks so much Aimee πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ‘ We practised fitting a neck brace, then using the KED back brace. A serious subject and important to get it right, but we had a bit of fun too with our 'casualties'!! 😁

St John Ambulance North Belfast Ambulance Unit team would like to say a big thanks to William Watson, volunteer at the Carrick Unit who came to the North Belfast Unit's Monday training session and gave an excellent presentation on living life with a Stoma Bag. The talk was well attended, everyone really appreciated the effort put in to make the presentation so interesting and that William gave up his time to share his knowledge with us. Thanks so much! πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸš‘

Orangefest 2026! 🍊
St John Ambulance North Belfast Ambulance Unit volunteers were on duty at various locations at NI's biggest parade in Belfast πŸš‘ and a second ambulance crew were deployed in Hillsborough. πŸš‘
The photos below taken by our crews sum up the crowds, the colours, the bands and the atmosphere of the day in Belfast. πŸ₯πŸͺˆ
The people also came out in force for the beautiful parade in Hillsborough and the crew managed to get a few photos of the amazing carved animals in Hillsborough park.
Although it was a long and hot day πŸ₯΅, as usual our volunteers showed professional and enthusiasm. Well done everyone!! πŸ‘ And it's back to training next Monday πŸ˜‚πŸš‘

First aid and fundraising! That's what we've been doing at St John Ambulance North Belfast Ambulance Unit. We joined the Ormeau Community Ukulele Group who presented the Unit with a cheque for Β£1,507.20 which was raised at St George's market where the ukulele group played and the St John Cadets based at North Belfast Unit helped with a bucket collection. A big thanks to all involved πŸ™ This week saw our volunteers out across the province with duties that included St George's market craft fair, Zack Bryan concert, Boucher Road, agricultural show, Newry and the annual Hillsborough market.

We were sent the photographs below showing some history of St John Ambulance, Newtownards Division in 1995. The second photograph shows one of the long serving volunteers from St John Ambulance North Belfast Ambulance Unit Anne-Loiuse Parker who started her St John journey with the Ards Unit back in 1987. Anne-Loiuse is second row, third from right. That's an amazing 37 years service and we all agree she hasn't changed a bit!! Well done Anne-Loiuse πŸ™πŸ™πŸ‘πŸ‘
