Marking WEAAD and World Loneliness Awareness Week at Taylor Cheshire House

Tenants at Taylor Cheshire House marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and helped kick off World Loneliness Awareness Week with a lovely day of connection, baking and fun.

The morning began with some on-theme purple fairy buns, followed by a Big Quiz in the afternoon, with 12 tenants taking part and prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

The craic was had by all but more importantly, the day gave everyone a chance to reflect on the importance of looking out for one another, recognising loneliness, and making small commitments to stay connected.

Personality Disorder Awareness Month is an opportunity to reflect on how we understand and support individuals within our services.

At Threshold, including Glencarn House, we see every day the impact of stigma, gaps in services, and the difference that consistent, compassionate support can make. This is not just about awareness—it’s about how we think, how we respond, and how we do better.

A group of runners are running the Marathon in support of the work we do. If you can pitch in and help us hit our fundraising goal!

"Five mates from Ballyhackamore are lacing up for the Belfast City Marathon relay, taking on the miles together for a cause that genuinely matters. They’re running in support of Threshold, a charity doing outstanding work across Northern Ireland in learning support and mental health services. Every leg of the relay is about raising awareness and backing an organisation that changes lives in the community—any support goes a long way."

Iʼm raising money to to support Threshold, a charity that helps people living with disability and severe mental ill-health to live independently. . Support this JustGiving Crowdfunding Page.

Threshold staff were pleased to attend the APG on dual diagnosis and addiction at Stormont, with Diane Watson, Clinical Outreach Lead , and Brooke Chambers, Clinical Outreach Assistant there from Threshold.

Chaired by MLA Danny Donnelly, the event featured a presentation from Professor Anne Campbell of Queen’s University Belfast and brought together a range of local and Northern Ireland-based organisations and stakeholders, including CAMHS, Dunlewey, PSNI and QUB.

It was a great opportunity for discussion and engagement on policy and practice in relation to dual diagnosis and addiction.

One of our residents recently spoke in a news report about the importance of youth support services.

Her words are a reminder of how vital these services are for wellbeing, guidance, and connection, especially for young people facing significant challenges.

Voices like hers matter, and so does protecting the services that support people when they need them most.
