Bumper May 2026 Newsletter Distributed

A bumper, eight page edition of LOCA's latest community newsletter has been distributed to Lower Oldpark residents.

'LOCAl Update', previously known as 'Housing News Lower Oldpark', is packed with information across 23 articles and was distributed to every home in Lower Oldpark during the last week in May 2026.

The new name reflects the broader range of subjects the newsletter focuses on. It still provides an update on housing and local environment issues, but now also lets everyone know about the great activities being provided by LOCA for the people of Lower Oldpark. By promoting these, LOCA hopes to encourage more people to get involved.

City Council Trials Dog Foul Bins

Belfast City Council has installed a new dog foul bin at the junction of Manor Street and Oldpark Road as part of a trial across the city.

A City Council representative said that these dog foul bins will be emptied by the Council with the rest of the litterbins.

Tonight our Senior Youth Group took their session out into the community with a walk‑round that encouraged them to think outside the box, observe their surroundings and engage in critical and creative thinking.

Using culture, restorative conversations and real‑world examples from their own streets, we explored what community truly means — and the lads picked up on something powerful:
UNITY is right there in the word COMMUNITY.

They reflected on belonging, responsibility and the role young people play in shaping the place they live.

We wrapped up with a well‑earned KFC and some challenge questions, which of course led to a reward 😊

A brilliant night of learning, walking, talking and connecting.

✨ Blast from the Past in Lower Oldpark! ✨

We were lucky enough to get a wee sneak peek inside the old Oldpark Post Office today, tucked right under the Ebenezer Gospel Hall and what a throwback it was. The building is full of character, stories, and memories from generations of local families.

A huge thank you to Robert for opening the doors and giving us the chance to step back in time.
