Tonight was a very special evening at NBCU ⭐️
With so many of our cadets interested in pursuing careers in healthcare, we were delighted to have three of our former cadets, now Youth Leaders, come back and share their experiences.
First up were our very own Angel and Akash, both studying Medicine at Queen’s University Belfast. Angel is now in her final year, while Akash is in his third year. They shared their journeys into medicine, what they have learned along the way, and plenty of tips and advice for our cadets who may be considering a similar path.
This was followed by William, a former cadet from Carrick Unit and former cadet of the year, now EAC at HQT, who is currently in his final year of Nursing at Queen’s University Belfast. William spoke about his journey into nursing, what inspired him to pursue the profession and what life as a nursing student is really like.
The enthusiasm from the cadets was brilliant. The questions just kept coming, so much so that we ran well over our planned finish time, with parents waiting outside while the cadets still had plenty more they wanted to ask! 😂
What made the evening particularly special was seeing three people who started their own journeys as cadets now standing at the front of the room, sharing their experiences and inspiring the next generation.
It’s such a wholesome reminder of what St John cadets can be about - watching young people grow, develop and eventually come full circle to give back.
We are incredibly proud of you guys, and to have two future doctors who started their journeys right here in our own unit makes it all the more special. ❤️
A huge thank you to William, Akash and Angel for taking the time to inspire our cadets and share your journeys. We can’t wait to see where those journeys take you next! 👏
