CLUB SUPPORT SCHEME 2026/27

We want to engage with mainstream and disability sports clubs to help create more inclusive environment for disabled people who play, spectate or volunteer in sport.

THE AREAS WE CAN HELP YOU WITH INCLUDE:

✅ Making your facilities more accessible for disabled people
✅ Delivering training courses and education programmes to improve your knowledge of disability
✅ Making your existing programmes more inclusive and welcoming for disabled people or developing new opportunities
✅ Embedding inclusive language and practices into your publications, communications and marketing
✅ Sharing good practice and resources to encourage inclusion in your sport

Clubs interested in the Club Support Scheme will be supported by Disability Sport NI's Community Sport team and will complete an action plan to help identify key areas of support.

Disability Sport NI AGM and Annual Awards Evening 2025/26

On Tuesday 29th September, we welcomed members and funders to our AGM and Annual Awards Evening, a night celebrating the charity's impact and recognising the clubs, officials and volunteers who support our work.

During the evening, we showcased our Impact Report for 2025/26 and presented this year's annual awards. We were also delighted to welcome Kathryn Eagleson of Progressive Building Society, who presented funding to local clubs through the Progressive Partnership Club Support Initiative.

This year's annual award winners were:

Defeat for GB in Semi Final Thriller 🏀

It will be a bronze medal match on Saturday for GB Women’s wheelchair basketball team after defeat to USA in a thrilling semi final match.

Having lead in both the 2nd and 3rd quarters, it was heartbreak for Katie Morrow and teammates as USA took control of the 4th quarter to do enough to get the victory.

A great advert for the sport of wheelchair basketball despite defeat and what a privilege it was to watch that Katie Morrow performance in the semi final of a world championships!

That's game 🇬🇧

After a tough 40 minute battle, our GB Women's team fall short against USA in the semi-finals.

GB will be back on the court Saturday looking to take a bronze medal back home!🥉

Ottawa 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships 🏀

It's Semi-Final day for Katie Morrow and the GB Women's wheelchair basketball team at the 2026 World Championships in Ottawa. After overcoming Germany 81-38 last night, GB now face USA for a place in the final!

Fixtures have been confirmed for the 2026-2027 NI Wheelchair Basketball League with opening game day set for next Saturday, hosted by reigning champions Knights at Ulster University, Jordanstown.

👏 We would also like to pass on a massive congratulations to League official, Wendy Cullen, who over the summer was selected to officiate 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. A fantastic achievement for Wendy which demonstrates the pathway for officials within our game!

Updates from Ottawa 2026 🇨🇦 - GB Women's Progress to Quarter Finals 🏀

GB Women's Wheelchair Basketball team, featuring local star Katie Morrow, finished off their pool stage matches at the IWBF World Championships with a narrow loss to hosts Canada. In an epic encounter, the match finished with a double overtime and saw Katie Morrow hit a buzzer beating 3 pointer to bring the score to within a point. A potential foul looked like it might have given Katie the opportunity to tie the game again but it wasn't to be. Check out the final seconds drama on link below.

It has been a strong pool stages for the team and Katie individually, as she leads the way in points scored for GB across the 5 matches. Results below:
