We are aware that the recent unrest and incidents across Northern Ireland may be causing concern and distress for many within the Deaf community.

At the British Deaf Association, we encourage everyone to take care of themselves and one another during this difficult time. As our Deaf community is diverse, it is important that we continue to support each other.

Massive thanks to Raymond & Rita Abernethy for organizing, facilitating an open meeting with Pam Cameron from DUP for those in their constituency. A huge surprise to see Gordon Lyons, First Minister and the Right Honorable Gavin Robinson MP, along with colleagues Mark Cooper & Alison Bennington. This morning our User Group in Derry were visited by Jimmy Montgomery, Patient Access Manager for Outpatients in Altnagelvin Hospital. Jimmy provided us with information on how interpreters and access requirements are booked in a number of hospital departments in the Western Trust. He explained that the Western Trust are exploring ways to improve access for Deaf community members.

The upcoming dates for our user group sessions are:

- 25th Septemeber 10am-12pm
- 20th November 10am-12pm
- ⁠29th January 10am-12pm
