Menstruation Matters Belfast

Menstruation Matters Belfast We work to alleviate the issue of period poverty and reshape the conversation around periods But there is still a little more work to do.

Since 2016, we have been providing period packs to people in need, normalising the conversation on periods and campaigning for free period products in all toilets. Our period packs reach rough sleepers, women's refuges, disadvantaged young people, homeless hostels, food banks, refugees & asylum seekers, survivors of human trafficking, individuals and families of low income. If you would like to he

lp us meet the needs of those experiencing period poverty, send the page a message and we can provide information on our donation points located across Belfast or alternatively, you can donate through our Go-Fund-Me link. Currently we are campaigning for free period products in all toilets through our campaign. We believe that any toilet that requires toilet paper, requires period products in exactly the same way. Our campaign and petition with 6000 signatories calling for free period products in all schools was finally approved by the NI Executive in December 2020. In March 2022, we had further campaign success and made history by spearheading the campaign for free period products in all public buildings, which led to the Period Products (Free Provision) Bill being passed and unanimously supported! We are calling for free period products in toilets everywhere; now in all private establishments such as cafes, restaurants, bars, gyms, hotels etc. We firmly believe all businesses and work places should provide free period products, just like toilet roll! Please join us in our campaign and help us make free period products in all toilets the norm - our menstrual needs really have been sidelined for way too long!

Thanks everyone who has donated period products or ££ recently to help us meet donation requests. Over 100 period products have been delivered to a women’s hostel, young people in financial hardship and a food bank that were running very low in these items for their community.

We’re running low - so if you can, donate to our bin at oh yeah music centre or visit the link in our bio ❤️

Thanks so much!

We’ve recently been invited to a few events to share our campaign journey - from getting the law passed for free period products to raising awareness around endometriosis and the changes we need to see in women’s health.

Big shoutout to our team esp for speaking on a panel about our work (and her own campaigning) alongside some amazing panellists. And to for speaking at Cork University about the work still needed in the north to make sure endometriosis is better researched, funded and resourced - so people like her can get the support they need, sooner.

Grace from Menstruation Matters Belfast reflects on the report, in particular the psychological impact on the denial of this fundamental right, before opening a panel discussion with Brooke Ewing from SSUNI, Ellie Wisener, MA Student, and Katrina McDonnell from Menstruation Matters Belfast

The news of Naomi Connor’s passing last week has had me reflecting on what a force she truly was. I first met her about 10 years ago, when I was 22 and entering the women’s movement. She was so warm, but bold and brave - everything I aspired to be. Watching her use her voice so fiercely in the reproductive rights space especially, gave so many of us the confidence to use ours.

She supported us in our early days, championed young women like us, and was always a fab sounding board. I remember how supportive she was when she was with us for the final reading of the bill to make period products free in the North, while also being at Stormont to see safe access zones pass. She showed up again at our “periods don’t stop for Stormont” drop-in and of course she was as bold as ever with her words to MLAs stalling progress.

Just last summer, we spoke about collabing on her new project, The Body Politic, to push back against growing far right threats to bodily autonomy, while also chatting all about her Glastonbury advice for me in between. That balance of seriousness and joy felt very her ✨

Last week, I dedicated a talk to Naomi - someone whose presence and voice shaped our work in ways that are hard to put into words. I’m not sure I’d be doing what I do without women like her showing me the way.

Naomi leaves a powerful legacy. She will always be remembered as an absolute Belfast feminist icon who made this place much better. The movement will not be the same but her energy lives on 💫

Thank you for everything you did Naomi - and your fierceness and support. Rest in power, just rest ❤️

School toilet access is a human right - let them go.

Earlier this week we launched a report led by Elaine at on this very topic and ran a panel with super impressive young women, Ellie and Brooke, while our very own chaired the discussion.

School students are leaking on their periods, depriving themselves of water so they don’t risk an accident and are actually having accidents because of toilet restrictions at school. This issue demands attention - keep your eyes peeled for our next steps.

24/03/2026

Join us, Women’s Resource and Development Agency and a panel of young women to discuss the key findings and recommendations of our report on bathroom access in schools. register at link in bio.
