There are 4.8 million Christians in Pakistan, making up just 1.9% of the country’s population - a minority facing many challenges, from the potential for deadly violence to everyday discrimination. Amongst them are young girls facing a growing threat.

The church is concerned about the risk to Christian girls being forced to convert to Islam and marry underage. Students in Christian schools have been warned not to be too friendly with Muslim youths, causing fear and further division in communities.

FAITH & FORGIVENESS IN RWANDA

Bishop Samuel Kayinamura, who leads Eglise Methodiste Libre Au Rwanda (EMLR), is a survivor of the 1994 Rwandan genocide. His parents were sadly among the estimated one million killed during the 100 day ordeal that devastated the country. He was forced to leave his home, fleeing to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for safety.

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming The Most Reverend Bannie Manga, Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church The Gambia, back to Ireland.

Bishop Bannie enjoyed a busy five-day visit to Ireland, with a packed programme that included church services, Castlewellan Holiday Week, conversations with The Methodist Church in Ireland leadership, and opportunities to strengthen connections with The Gambia.

From World Cup fever to flourishing friendships!

We are in Latvia this week spending time with our Latvijas Apvienotā Metodistu Baznīca/ Latvia United Methodist Church family.

Yesterday we spent the day at Wesley Camp, meeting the young people and their leaders as they continued their theme 'Disconnect to Reconnect'. After a range of crafts, activities and a Bible teaching the evening came to a close with a wonderful Baptism service on the beach, where 6 young people were baptised, and 3 recommitted their lives to God.

This morning we visited Liepājas Metodistu draudze / Liepaja Methodist church where some of those young people attend.

We have been blessed to spend time with Anita Erc and her team at Wesley Camp and are looking forward to learning more about the Methodist Church in Latvia and how we can support one another over the coming days.

As believers, it is important that we understand and can explain our faith - so that we may “be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have” (1 Peter 3:15). In Togo, the Methodist Church (Eglise Méthodiste du Togo, or “EMT”) is helping thousands - children included - to put words to their faith by translating the Methodist Catechism from English into French, enabling people to live boldly for God, knowing who they are and what they believe.

In this video hear from Mr. Hippolyte Kouevi-Gath, Rev. Lucie Gaizer-Mensah and Rev. Benjamin Gabiam as they explain the significance of this Catechism booklet for the church in Togo.

Through your support for World Mission Partnership (WMP), you’ve played an important part in this work. Your giving to WMP allowed us to provide a grant of £3,250, which was used to print Catechism booklets, and to deliver training for pastors, lay preachers, and Sunday School teachers. Working together with our world church family, we have helped Methodists in Togo to know what they believe and live it out with confidence. This Saturday, on World Refugee Day, we honour and celebrate the strength and courage of refugees and displaced peoples worldwide.

Together, with the Council on Social Responsibility of the Methodist Church in Ireland, our Prayers of Solidarity are for those who have been forced to leave their homes and families.

We pray for our church family around the world, as they provide practical and spiritual support to displaced people. We also pray for the church here in Ireland, as we seek to carry out Jesus' command to love our neighbours and welcome the stranger.

In the midst of division and violence, prayer is more important than ever. So join us, as we pray for refugees, trusting in the God who was himself a refugee.
