This month, our Prayers of Solidarity focus on South Africa and the urgent crisis of gender-based violence and femicide. We invite you to use this prayer resource in your upcoming services.

Recent events have brought the devastating reality of violence in South Africa into sharp focus. Last week, at least 27 people were killed in two mass shootings near Cape Town and Johannesburg, just hours apart. As news of these attacks emerged, the body of a woman was discovered in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg - the 12th female victim found in the area since July.

Responding to the news, Rev Pumla Nzimande, Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa (MCSA), said: “We condemn these killings in the strongest possible terms. Every human being bears the image of God, and every life is sacred. Violence against women and girls is an assault on their God-given dignity and has no place in our homes, streets, communities, churches or society.”

Please join us in praying for the people of South Africa: that every person’s dignity would be upheld, that those who grieve would find comfort, and that the attitudes and actions driving violence against women would come to an end.

This morning we joined with other local mission organisations on board the OM Logos Hope in Belfast for a Mission Action Partnership - MAP meeting.

It was great to hear from Logos Hope staff and local organisations as they shared insights into how younger generations are interacting with world mission and how we can look forward to God working in new and exciting ways through the young people of Ireland.

Junior Mission for All, aka JMA, is the best way to help the kids in your church, home, GB or BB, to learn about their world church family and be part of God’s mission!

In this year’s JMA, we will learn how God wants us to SHARE with and CARE for one another. We will see how Christians in Uganda are doing that, and how we can play our part by praying, giving and supporting them.

All funds raised through JMA will go to the Methodist Church in Uganda (MCU) to support the provision of bilingual Sunday School materials, training in teaching and safeguarding for 60 Sunday School teachers, Holiday Bible Schools and Wellness Camps, and support the creation of MCU’s first Child Safeguarding Policy.

Last week we were joined by the Global Relationships Team from The Methodist Church. We spent time hearing from the GR Partnership Coordinators as they shared updates from sister churches - the challenges they are facing as well as stories of hope and growth.

Following our full day of meetings we headed to Bangor to take part in a short Pilgrimage - walking the monastic ancient trails to the original site of Bangor Abbey, guided by bells, sculptures and ancient rhythms. We finished our day with our closing meeting and a tour of Bangor Methodist Church with Rev. Jordan Litchfield.

It was great to spend time together with our British Methodist colleagues, strengthening relationships and learning from one another.

Our Gambia MEET Team gathered together on Saturday to take part in some pre-visit training and preparations.

The team travelled from across Ireland to meet at Edgehill where they spent the day together, taking the time to prepare their hearts, minds and attitudes before their visit to The Gambia in October.

The group will be joined by MCI President, Rev Dr Janet Unsworth and her husband John, accompanied by Rev Dr Andrew Ashdown, who serves with the Methodist Church in Britain as Partnership Coordinator for Africa.

In addition to your prayers, you can also support the visit financially. Contributions from team members have already covered the majority of the costs (travel, accommodation, meals etc), but your donations will help with the remaining total to ensure that the team aren't a financial burden on their hosts. After these costs have been covered, any extra funds will be given as a gift to the Methodist Church The Gambia to support their ministry.
