Thanks to everyone who came along to the G6 Team Building Day! Sarah Gordon & John McCandless had lots of treats in store for us, especially when we each had the opportunity to share something about ourselves with the group.

We also took part in some great team-building exercises that reminded us of the importance and value of working together.

A big thank you to HILLMOUNT for the wonderful hospitality. It was definitely a great day had by all!

Dementia isn't a single condition. It's an umbrella term for a range of symptoms caused by different diseases that affect the brain in different ways.

Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies and frontotemporal dementia are among the most common types of dementia. Because they each affect different parts of the brain, the symptoms can vary from person to person.

While memory problems are often associated with dementia, some people may experience changes in thinking, language, behaviour, concentration, movement or perception.

This guide highlights some symptoms linked to different types of dementia, but it’s also important to remember that no two people experience dementia in the same way.

By understanding the different signs of dementia, including those that are less well known, we can help more people recognise changes early and access a diagnosis and support sooner.

This is surrounded by text reading, 'Tremors; Depression and anxiety; Hallucinations; Swinging between alertness and sleepiness; Trouble concentrating; Difficulties with walking and movement.' A Celebration of Music

Drumming and singing workshop /Live Folk Music & Craic

Belfast is officially a UNESCO City of Music. Awarded this prestigious designation on 8th November 2021, it is the third city in the UK after Glasgow and Liverpool and first city on the island of Ireland to hold the title. Music is woven into the DNA of Belfast and celebrates a rich tapestry that spans traditional Irish and Ulster Scots music, punk, rock, and classical.

The Fleadh Cheoil or Music Festival which took place in Belfast last week from 2-9th August was the biggest musical event ever to take place in the city. The festival featured a week of vibrant cross-community cultural diversity blending traditional Irish music alongside Ulster Scots, South Asian and Highland piping traditions. It drew more than 1,000,000 visitors to the city.

We escaped the crowds and brought a flavour of the festival to the Double Doors group at the Walkway centre on Monday 3rd August. Fergal O’Brien and Kenny Qua facilitated a fun beginners guide to playing the bodhran to the sound of the fife giving the carers an opportunity to discover their inner drummer and had them tapping out rhythms like a professional in no time.

While the drumming workshop focused on the carers, the people they care for were singing their hearts out in another room at the end of the corridor. The two groups merged for the last ten minutes combining music, drumming, singing and even a little dancing!

The scene was set for a separate musical event on Wednesday 5th at Templemore Ave Network Centre. “Live Folk Music & Craic” was an in inclusive, dementia friendly event filled with the uplifting sounds of live Irish traditional and Ulster Scott’s folk music.

Members of the Double Doors group were among the attendees, and four of them joined the band of six musicians for a few tunes to show off their newfound skills, well done to all of you!

The open mic approach to the event presented us with the opportunity of hearing a couple of songs from some ladies who were also members of a local community choir. Between the music, dancing, and sing along it truly was an uplifting event full of craic and compared by the talented Fergal O’Brien.

Over the last few months several groups across East Belfast took part in the 'Taking Flight' art project led by and supported by Engage With Age .

Under the guide of two fab artists Anna O'Kane and Ali Fell participants created a beautiful homage to the iconic starling murmuration over the Lagan Bridge: the Exhibition is currently on display at the Templemore Baths Heritage Gallery.

Massive thanks to lovely Tarah from the EastSide Arts for securing the funds and leading the projects, supporting artists and lovely groups taking part in the project: Short Strand community Forum, Dean Crook's Fold, Links Women Group in Tullycarnet, Stormont Evergreens and Oak Ladies from Clarawood.

Pictured are Stormont Evergreens visiting the exhibition of their fab artwork.
