AA Veterans Support

Providing first class support services that are easily accessible for the service community in NI.

AA Veterans Support was established in 2011 to provide help, advice and guidance to those who serve or have served in the British Armed Forces and their families throughout Northern Ireland. We deliver many vital support services in our 'drop-in and training centre', which is situated just off the Crumlin Rd, Belfast. We also deliver outreach projects and welfare support to beneficiaries throughou

t Northern Ireland. The services we provide include counselling, respite, complementary therapies, employability support, support groups, benefits and housing advice and guidance, welfare assistance and more. We believe our service personnel, veterans and their families deserve our lifelong support, therefore we will endeavour to provide the necessary support services to enable those who serve or have served and their families to live an independent life.

☀️ Some of the team were in Portadown today for a fundraising collection and, thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who stopped to support us, raised an amazing £1093.06.

Every donation helps us continue providing practical support to serving personnel, veterans and their families across Northern Ireland.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, stopped for a chat or took the time to find out more about the work we do. We really appreciate your support.

As ever, a special mention to our volunteers who gave up their Saturday to make today’s collection possible. We couldn’t do it without them. 💙

☀️ It was a warm day in Millisle today, but that certainly didn’t stop our volunteers, who raised an incredible £2,373.13 in support of our work.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped to chat and made a donation. Every pound raised helps us continue supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families across Northern Ireland.

A special thank you to Joanne and H for the lovely welcome, fantastic hospitality and breakfast, which gave everyone a great start to the day.

And finally, to our volunteers. You gave up your Saturday, braved the heat and made today’s fundraiser possible. We simply couldn’t do what we do without you.

Together we can make a difference.

We have been asked to share the following research opportunity with the veteran community. Please note that AA Veterans Support (AAVS) is not involved in this study and we are sharing it for information only.

Researchers from King’s College London and Queen’s University Belfast are looking for UK military veterans who are experiencing PTSD symptoms to take part in the FIRST PETT study. The study is evaluating a new online psychological therapy called Fast Imagery Reversal Script for Trauma-release (FIRST).

To be eligible, participants must:

• Be a UK military veteran
• Be aged 18 or over
• Be living and/or working in the UK
• Have a diagnosis of PTSD or be experiencing PTSD symptoms.

Participation is entirely voluntary. We would encourage anyone considering taking part to read the study information carefully and decide whether it is right for them.

📢 Are you part of a veterans’ group, association, club or charity in Northern Ireland?

Our Veterans Foundation-funded Armed Forces Pathway Navigator, Dennis, is available to visit veterans’ organisations across Northern Ireland to discuss the support, services and opportunities available to veterans, serving personnel and their families.

Whether through Veterans Support NI (AAVS) or the wider network of organisations supporting veterans, serving personnel and their families, the Navigator can help identify appropriate sources of support and provide information on a range of services and opportunities.

Visits can be arranged at a time and location that suits your organisation, including evenings and weekends.

Got information on support, services, funding opportunities or events that could benefit the wider Armed Forces community? Please don’t hesitate to share it with Dennis. Working together helps ensure veterans, serving personnel and their families are aware of the opportunities and assistance available to them.

Yesterday, some of the team had the pleasure of attending Armed Forces Day in Coleraine.

Events like this provide a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of the support available through AAVS, both through our own services and through our network of partner organisations. It was also a great opportunity to highlight our Veterans’ Foundation-funded AAVS - Northern Ireland Armed Forces Pathway Navigator project, which helps veterans and members of the Armed Forces community access the support, services and opportunities they need.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped to chat with us, purchased items from our stall or made a donation. Your support is greatly appreciated and helps us continue supporting veterans and their families across Northern Ireland.

It was great to see so many people out supporting Armed Forces Day and recognising the contribution of serving personnel, veterans and their families.

Some of the team joined Shankill Juniors 2017 today for our joint fundraising Land Rover Pull, raising an impressive £2,328.85 to be shared between both organisations.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers for their time and effort, and to everyone who donated and supported the fundraiser. Special thanks goes to the young players from Shankill Juniors 2017, who were fantastic throughout the day.

A huge thank you to the team at The Royal Landing for choosing AAVS as their 2026 charity partner.

Our team had a fantastic day at the event and, thanks to the incredible generosity of everyone who supported us, we raised an amazing £1,958.64.

The support shown throughout the day was greatly appreciated and will make a real difference in helping us continue to provide vital support to veterans and their families across Northern Ireland.

Some of the team were out across East Belfast for a few hours on Saturday alongside Ballymacarrett Junior District LOL No. 3 as part of our joint fundraiser, which raised an excellent £885.
