Thank you Millar McCall Wylie for being an amazing fundraising partner! 👏👏👏

And best of luck for the challenge on 5th September!

Your support makes a huge difference to children and young people in Northern Ireland 💚

Our next charity fundraiser for the fantastic Barnardo's Northern Ireland will see our team tackle the North Down Coastal Path on 5th September...and no that doesn't mean sampling all the coffee shops along the way! ☕

It means we'll be hiking from Holywood, clambering through Craigavad, bobbing along past Bangor to arrive at Orlock near Groomsport... all while raising funds for a fantastic cause. 👟

We can't wait to take on the challenge as a team and would be hugely grateful for all donations, which can be made here:

💚 As part of Week, our service teams have been visiting stores across Northern Ireland, sharing the incredible work happening every day to support children, young people and families in local communities.

It's also been a great opportunity to hear from our amazing store staff and volunteers about the vital role our retail teams play in raising funds to make that work possible.

Roisin from our Family Connections - South & East service recently visited Peter and the team at our King's Road store in East Belfast to discuss the challenges facing local families and the support Barnardo's provides.

📚 Peter also shared a fantastic community initiative happening in store! Until Sunday 9 August, every child visiting the King's Road store with an adult making a purchase will receive a FREE children's book, while stocks last.

Pop in, pick up a bargain, and help us make a difference in the lives of children and families across Northern Ireland. 💚

The Belfast Area Domestic and Sexual Violence and Abuse Partnership has re-launched an important app designed to help tackle abuse.

‘Haven: Belfast’ is free to download and is aimed at anyone experiencing domestic or sexual abuse within an intimate partner relationship, as well as professionals supporting them.

The app provides information on domestic and sexual abuse, how to recognise the warning signs of an abusive relationship, and where to access support.

The relaunch follows recent legislative changes and a wider understanding in Northern Ireland that domestic abuse is not limited to physical violence.

The app provides information on what constitutes domestic abuse, including non-violent forms such as emotional abuse, coercive and controlling behaviour, and financial abuse. It also explores the impact domestic and sexual abuse can have on those experiencing it and outlines where support is available.

For professionals working with people impacted by abuse, the app includes guidance on recognising the signs and effects of abuse, responding appropriately to disclosures, and accessing further support services.

You can download it by scanning the QR code in the image below.

Holiday Hunger is back in the spotlight this week.

Belfast Live has highlighted Danny Baker MLA's Private Member's Bill which seeks to place a legal duty on the Department of Education to provide support for children entitled to free school meals during school holidays.

The Bill would help around 90,000 children across Northern Ireland who currently receive free school meals during term time but are left without support during school holidays.

At Barnardo's NI, we've responded to the consultation, urging the Assembly to back this vital legislation.

School holidays can place enormous pressure on families already struggling to make ends meet.

No child should go hungry because school is closed. This Bill is an important step towards tackling holiday hunger and ensuring children have access to the nutritious food they need all year round.

The Sinn Féin MLA said that he is exploring a potential second Private Members Bill after the election, which would legislate for universal free school meals

We had a fantastic time at Belfast Pride at the weekend! 🌈

Pride is about celebrating identity, belonging and the freedom to be yourself. ❤️

Every young person's journey to understanding who they are is unique – and that's something to be proud of.

We're celebrating every young person, and the safe, supportive spaces that help them feel seen, valued and accepted.

We support LGBT+ children and young people, as well as their families. Across all our services, we're committed to creating safe, inclusive spaces where every young person can thrive.
