Coercive control can involve patterns of isolation, intimidation and control that gradually restrict someone’s freedom, independence and choices.

Preventing violence against women and girls means recognising that it can occur both within wider society and in our personal relationships.
It means understanding how power and control can contribute to abuse, and challenging the attitudes and behaviours that allow it to continue.

🤝Through the Nexus EVAWG Pledge training, we support organisations to understand VAWG, challenge these attitudes, promote gender equality, and give people the confidence to safely speak up and take action.

Smart glasses can make it easier to photograph or film people discreetly and without them realising.

Recording someone without their knowledge or consent raises important concerns around privacy, dignity and technology-facilitated abuse.

Being in a public place does not mean you have automatically consented to being filmed or photographed.

We’re pleased to share that our Impact Report 2025/26 is now live on our website.

The report looks back at a year of impact across Northern Ireland, from counselling and support services to training, projects, partnerships and our work to prevent violence against women and girls.

Belfast Trust Takes The Pledge to Help End Violence Against Women and Girls.👏

Belfast Health and Social Care Trust have formally taken the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) Pledge, reaffirming its commitment to provide a safe, supportive and inclusive working environment for staff affected by or at risk of abuse, and to raising awareness of its serious impact on individuals and families.

The Pledge, led by Nexus NI, encourages organisations across Northern Ireland to take meaningful action to prevent violence, support those affected, and promote a culture where abuse is not tolerated.

Recent media coverage has once again highlighted concerns about the use of positive character references in sexual offence cases.

Sexual offending often takes place in private, and perpetrators may be viewed by others as respected, trustworthy or of "good character". When character references focus on an offender's reputation, they risk shifting attention away from the evidence and the harm caused.

At Nexus, we believe legislation is needed to prohibit the use of positive character references in sexual offence cases and for the justice system to better balance the protection, safety and dignity of victims of abuse.

Do you want to help young people play their part in Ending Violence Against Women & Girls?

Our Step Up, Step In workshops are fully funded, interactive sessions designed to support young people in understanding relationships, recognising harm, and building confidence to respond safely.

Through these workshops, young people will:
✔ Explore what respect and safety look like in relationships
✔ Better understand consent and boundaries
✔ Recognise harmful behaviours, including coercive control and grooming
✔ Build confidence to challenge attitudes and support others

Delivered by experienced facilitators, these sessions are engaging, practical and tailored for young people.
