Antrim shore, flowing with poison for the 4th year running. Politicians will claim to be on the side of the Lough, while continuing to support the Going for Growth policy that supercharged this crisis, endless extraction and profiteering while the Lough is on its knees, and giving rates relief and subsidies to giant polluters, instead of supported our waterways service.

The greed that turned our waterways green must be tackled and rooted out at its core.

🚨 This is the toxic blue green algae currently covering Lough Neagh. It has killed many animals, pets and caused illness in people. It is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt.

It is caused by greed, with our government prioritising intensive agriculture for export, cuts to our water service leaving our sewage system lacking, with endless extraction and exploitation such as sand dredging making things worse.

We need an overhaul of the priorities of our system, to put the environment and water we drink above short term profit. Sign the petition against the factory farms due to be greenlit at Lough Neagh https://bit.ly/nomagherafelt

Lough Neagh, the largest lake in the UK and Ireland provides 40% of the drinking water for Northern Ireland. Blue-Green Algae found in our waterways including Lough Neagh has devastated nature and biodiversity.

Run-off from agriculture, wastewater treatment works, domestic systems and industry are all identified as the culprits, as well as climate change and Zebra Mussels

What have we got to do to make government act? Please take action ✍https://bit.ly/PigsPoultryNI

Great news!! Friday 3 July 2026 marks a significant day for children’s rights and environmental justice.

The High Court ruled that the Department for Infrastructure acted unlawfully in failing to carry out required diesel emissions testing over the last 20 years!

This is an important victory for accountability and for the rights and wellbeing of children and young people.

We are grateful for our partnership of Public Interest Litigation Support (PILS) and Friends of the Earth Northern Ireland.

This has been a long road but the judgement finally came 💙🩷🧡💚❤️

Could legal 'personhood' help save Lough Neagh?

Rights of Nature could give Lough Neagh the same status as a person, entitled to the same protections.
