In the 1920s, the Duke and Duchess of York were photographed during a visit to Austria, proudly wearing the uniforms of the Boy Scout and Girl Guide movements.
The future King George VI and Queen Elizabeth stand side by side in this charming image — he in full Scout uniform with staff and hat, she in the elegant yet practical uniform of the Girl Guides. Even before they ascended the throne, the royal couple took a genuine interest in the youth movements founded by Robert Baden-Powell. The Duke served as Chief Scout of the British Empire, while the Duchess was deeply involved with the Girl Guides.
This photograph captures a lighter, more relaxed side of the royal couple during the interwar years. Far from the formal constraints of court life, they appear approachable and enthusiastic about supporting causes that promoted discipline, service, and character-building among young people.
Years later, as King and Queen during the Second World War, their early commitment to the youth of Britain would take on even greater meaning — becoming symbols of strength and continuity for a new generation facing uncertainty and hardship.
A rare and delightful glimpse of the Duke and Duchess of York as a young couple, united not only in marriage but also in their shared dedication to serving the next generation.

We in North West Belfast District Scout Council extend deepest sympathy and condolences to our former District Commissioner, Jason Watson, his Wife, Dani and his Father, on the sad loss of Jason’s beloved Mother.

Mrs Watson sadly passed away earlier today after a lengthy and brave battle with illness.

May God Bless and sustain Jason and the wider Watson family circle at this sad time. At Rest.

NORTH WEST BELFAST
DISTRICT SCOUT COUNCIL

Tonight we had a very positive and well attended meeting of North West Belfast District Scout Council. The DLV/DC, John Mercer gave a very upbeat report, as his first year in post nears conclusion. It was great to see a number of Explorer Scouts from the Endeavour Unit, (connected to the 45th Scout Group, Immanuel, Ardoyne) in attendance.

At the meeting Lily Young (Endeavour ESU) was presented with her Chief Scout’s Diamond Award by DLV/DC, John Mercer. Congratulations to Lilly and to her Leaders, Scott Hamilton and Tracy Clifford.

Congratulations to Tracy, who was presented with her 5 Year Service Award.

Well Done Ladies!! ⚜️
