As part of Visual Artists Ireland’s Get Together 2026, Navigating Power in Contemporary Curating brings together an international group of curators, researchers and cultural producers to examine how contemporary exhibition-making is responding to changing political, social and economic conditions.
Across the day, Alenka Gregorič considers how Cukrarna Gallery negotiates cultural memory and contemporary practice; former Hayward Gallery Director Ralph Rugoff reflects on the politicisation of institutional programming; and Nick Aikens looks at public trust, accountability and the changing civic role of arts institutions. John Tain draws on the Lahore Biennale to explore new models of globalism amid climate and social crises, while João Laia approaches exhibition-making through q***r, performative and sensorial perspectives.
