Today is World Mental Health day and there’s no better way to support mental health than getting out into the fresh air and getting some exercise with beautiful coastal views.

We have 5-6 places left on the bus for our Causeway Coastal Walk on 24th October. What better way to mark the end of British Summer Time?

Starting at Ballintoy and aiming for Portballintrae, the walk is about 11 miles or so, with options to finish instead at Dunseverick or the Giants Causeway for those wanting a shorter walk.

Booking essential - scan the QR code below to book or contact Noel on 07926 361201.

Well peeps, time for our next event. Following on from the great craic had at the Mournes walk last May, we’re organising a Causeway coast walk from Ballintoy to Portballintrae. Beautiful coastal paths and scenery the whole way.

The team at Music and Mind are great believers in the power of nature and the outdoors for our mental health. Just think of it as free therapy through exercise, fresh air, connection with others and plenty of craic on the bus.

Date is Saturday 24th Oct, with a bus leaving from Whitehead Community Centre at 8am, returning no later than 6pm.

The walk itself is around 4-4.5hrs (11-12 miles).

£20 for the bus, bring your own food, snacks, drinks etc and come prepared for whatever the weather throws at us.

Scan the QR code below to book and get payment details. Payment required to confirm your booking.

Any questions, message us or call Noel on 07926 361201.

Well, where to start? It’s hard to write a post that will do justice to the weekend just past, but we’ll give it a go.

Firstly, a big thank you to the volunteers who delivered 2,000 programmes to households around the town to keep everyone informed.

And the thanks continue…
Next, to the Marine Bar Whitehead, The Whitecliff Inn and Whitehead Glasgow Rangers Club who provided some stellar entertainment at their venues.

To newcomers Craftsea Lighthouse and Lighthouse Yarns who came up with imaginative events and delivered them with aplomb, not to mention Shores.Whitehead and Brave New World Salon who offered new venues for music at the more chilled end of the spectrum.

To McMasters Butchers for the BBQ, The Bank House Cafe for the music and (festival favourite) poetry.

To the Church of Ireland for hosting our ‘wellness’ events, the Methodist for the family picnic, silver bands and ukuleles and not forgetting the Congregational church for their wonderful joint service of praise.

To Whitehead Community Centre for lending chairs and hosting our new local Uke band.

To the local swimming groups including the Bluetits who supported our community dip with a record turnout of around 40 people.

Not forgetting the 23 intrepid souls who turned up for the night time walk to the lighthouse and were rewarded with the most fantastic moon…

…and of course the performers, artists, teachers, musicians, poets, crafters and more who took part and made the weekend bigger and better than ever.

And last, but by no means least, to Eve Black and Steve Diamond Artist for stepping in to keep the socials covered and ensure everyone knew what was happening.

We do appreciate that the success only happens when YOU turn up and support the events and the biggest thanks goes to all of you for coming out and getting involved.

Keep an eye out for events that run throughout the year - possibly a coastal walk in the autumn once we’ve recovered from this weekend and definitely the Big Christmas Sit out where Noel McKee will be collecting for the The Salvation Army United Kingdom and Ireland Territory and local food bank.

Lynn Mahood said it all, about today's event in the the waves: "What a fantastic day at Whitehead. I just love Music and Mind's community sea dip. It brings the community and friends together and this year was such a great turnout."

"I haven’t been swimming in a long time and today I was back at it. Now I remember why I love it! The fun, laughter and buzz of adrenaline that energises you and takes all your worries away for a while."

The lovely Ciara McCabe guesting with the HBBTB along with the locals of the Marine Bar Whitehead paying their own special tribute to Dolly Parton all part of Music and Mind Great Night Had By All.

Sunday’s going great, with a fantastic turnout for the community swim and now the Flamin’ Ukes in the Methodist church hall as the weather forecast was pretty rubbish, but of course now that we’re inside the sun’s shining away!

Get yourself down here for Ballyduff silver band starting at 3pm and then on to the Marine Bar Whitehead for BBQ and more music.

Wee tribute to Dolly Parton and not the first one of the weekend!

We’ve had to make a call to bring the 2pm Flamin Ukes and 3pm Silver Band gigs inside today to the Methodist Church Halls at Balmoral Ave in Whitehead. The weather looks too uncertain to risk keeping it outside. See all you hardy people at 1pm at the car park for a quick sea dip though. Not like we’re likely to stay dry anyway!!

Wetsuit? Swimsuit? Up to you – you might only fancy a paddle up to your knees. Meet up at the slipway at the bottom of Old Castle Road, beside the Blackhead Path car parks.
