Funky Kids' allotments at Glenbane Avenue in Rathcoole have worked extremely hard, with a little help from The Housing Executive, to transform a disused site to a vibrant community asset over a number of years.
Poppy Douglas, Housing Executive Assistant Manager, South Antrim said, "We have supported this group through a number of funding cycles, and most recently have awarded the group £1000 though our community involvement grant to help to provide this signage at the site which we were delighted to unveil.
'I am so happy to see this amazing project keep growing and growing. It teaches the children so many social skills as well as gardening skills and really helps to boost their confidence and instil a sense of community.
Lynn Nicholson, Chairperson, Funky Kids said, "With such a welcoming sign at our property we are confident we will attract even more to people to reap the rewards of our very special shared space.
"We are very appreciative of the Housing Executive's ongoing support for this intergenerational project which teaches young people with additional needs and ASD about biodiversity, the natural world and how to grow food.
"It also brings the community together in a safe and welcoming space where they feel they truly belong while giving them a sense of responsibility for improving the appearance of the area."
