Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful

Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful Promoting sustainable living through whole school action supported by learning resources, management tools and the internationally recognised Green Flag

Eco-Schools is a programme for environmental management, certification and sustainable development education for schools. Its holistic, participatory approach and combination of learning and action make it an ideal way for schools to embark on a meaningful path to improving the environments of schools and their local communities, and of influencing the lives of young people, school staff, families

, local authorities, NGOs, and all other bodies involved in this vitally important area of work. The Eco-Schools programme was developed in 1994 on the basis of the need for involving young people in finding solutions to environmental and sustainable development challenges at the local level, as identified at the UN Conference on Environment and Development of 1992.The program was initiated by Member organisations of the Foundation for Environmental Education with the support of the European Commission. Here in Northern Ireland, the Eco-Schools Programme is operated by Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful, an environmental charity. We receive funds from the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, as well as support from 10 of the 11 local councils and other delivery partners.

There's going to be a change in where you find your Eco-Schools updates from now on. We have changed the name of our parent organisation to Live Here Love Here, and we are retiring Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful. But everything else will be exactly the same!

Unfortunately, our idea to merge our channels wasn't possible,😧 so to help us bring everything together in one place we will be closing this Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful/Eco-Schools Northern Ireland Facebook and moving all our messaging to Live Here Love Here. 👈

Schools like King's Park Primary School, Newtownabbey are leading the way this . 💛

Our Field Officer Aodhán had a blast with the P7 gang as they headed out and collected 47 bags of litter! 🚮

Every bag collected has an impact, and helps protect the places we love and live from being unsightly and unsafe. A BIG well done to this hardworking group. 🎉

🌍We are learning a lot from the next generation of environmental change-makers!

Our Eco-Schools Field Officer Anna headed along to the 2026 Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Environmental Youth Speak competition at the Island Arts Centre. What a fantastic event showcasing young people’s passion, knowledge and creativity to take action on environmental issues.

From reducing our waste to becoming “Binfluencers”, it was such an inspiring day. Well done to everyone who took part!💚♻️
