Important update for families across Northern Ireland.

Family Fund’s Northern Ireland programme has reopened, with grants available to eligible families raising a disabled or seriously ill child or young adult on a low income.

Calling all families in Northern Ireland 📣

Our Northern Ireland programme re-opens today, funded by the Northern Ireland Department of Health.

This mean families living in Northern Ireland raising a disabled or seriously ill child, or young adult, on a low income can now apply for a wide range of grants. Don't forget to check your eligibility on our website before applying.

We are looking forward to providing an information stand at the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Community Connect event this Thursday, 20 August at the Antrim Forum leisure centre.

Residents from across Antrim and Newtownabbey are invited to attend Community Connect, a free event bringing together local organisations, community groups and Council services offering support for people of all ages.

The event will feature more than 60 organisations providing information and advice on health and wellbeing, employment, housing, finances, volunteering, transport and community services.

Visitors can also enjoy a range of free activities throughout the day, including live music, line dancing, first aid demonstrations, complimentary therapies, children's arts and crafts, storytelling and a bouncy castle.

A big thank you to our Cliff Edge Coalition Colleagues who represented our 100 plus organisations and met with Minister Gordon Lyons, Communities NI to talk about the key measures needed to protect people in NI, including unpaid carers from poverty and financial hardship.

Thanks to Minister Gordon Lyons Communities NI for meeting with Cliff Edge Coalition working group members Angela Phillips, Sarah Corrigan and Siobhán Harding today.

We discussed the importance of the Northern Ireland mitigations package and the Coalition's key strengthening asks to ensure the adequacy of the social security system and to protect people from financial hardship and poverty

Thank you to the Equality Commission for supporting this lady with her case. Balancing work and juggling childcare is difficult. Add into that mix a child with additional needs or an illness or disability and it's no surprise that one in three women who care have had to leave work because of their caring role.

All employers need to reflect on the realities of the workplace and recognise the caring roles that women and unpaid carers carry out and should support them to do so and to remain in the workforce.

A County Fermanagh mother who worked as a receptionist at the Westville Hotel, Enniskillen, has been awarded almost £20,500 by the Industrial Tribunal.

Anna Owens who was supported by the Equality Commission, successfully brought an indirect s*x discrimination case.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday at the beautiful Lough Neagh Discovery Centre for our Together We Care – Taking Time in Nature Roadshow. 💚🌿

It was great to spend the afternoon receiving valuable information, sharing conversation over lunch and taking a guided woodland walk together. We hope everyone who attended had the opportunity to relax, connect with fellow carers, and take some well-deserved time for themselves.

A special thank you to Patricia from the Southern Health and Social Care Trust and Michelle from Clanrye Group for their informative talks, sharing information about the support and services available to carers. Your contributions were greatly appreciated.
