Outreach Update ~ Wednesday 7th October 2026

Tonight was the first night it’s felt like Autumn, with a real chill in the air and still a sizeable queue waiting for us. As is the norm lots of new and lots of familiar faces.

Apart from one young man who was under the influence and looking for a fight, the night passed off incident free. All our callers were grateful for the gorgeous selection of food and the hot drinks to warm them up.

Shannen, Brendan, Lyra, Lisa, Klara and Deirdre were kept busy but still brought good humour, smiles and kindness.

Shannen and Klara served up tonight’s hots. Grateful thanks again tonight to Colin's Hot Food's Bangor for pasties and chips, hand delivered to the table by Colin. Thanks also to Zuzu Carrickfergus who donated another fab selection of chinese takeaway. We also had chicken curry with rice from Deirdre, so all in all our callers were spoilt for choice.

Brendan and Lisa gave out snackpacks, yoghurts, and lots of cakes and pastries. Thank you to Peggy, Raymond and Josie for their weekly snackpack duty.

And Lyra had her work cut out for her on teas and coffees, while Deirdre did some crowd control.

Huge thanks to the local businesses who so generously donate to our tables. Their kindness knows no bounds, and makes such a difference to us.

Thanks also to John for another kind donation of biscuits at the table.

Outreach Update ~ Tuesday 6th October 2026

Cooler tonight in the city centre but thankfully dry.

It was a busy shift with a steady flow throughout and a little manic at times. We had some attempted queue bunking but no real bother. Lots of hungry folks glad of the food and drinks tonight, and some of our callers just glad for the company and support. Great to hear that one of our regulars now has a permanent place to live, and she was telling our team how excited she is to get everything set up. We wish her a long and happy future there.

We had the full Tuesday team at the table tonight with Julie F, Tommy, Frances K, Frances M, Patricia, Pamela, Leeanne, David, Tommy and Chelsea. Everyone worked their socks off, and all our callers left with full bellies and in good form.

Tonight on the menu we had cheeseburgers from Frances K, chicken casserole from Patricia, and a choice of stew or chicken curry from Leeanne.

Patricia also made a veggie meal for one of our callers, which was greatly received. Sandwiches were supplied by David, Frances M, Tommy and Chelsea. Ciar’s mum also kindly left down sandwiches. David filled the flasks, Tommy brought the milk and Chelsea the water, while Julie brought Suki drinks and lots of sweet stuff Thanks everyone 😍

Thank you as always to Storehouse North Down for their constant support and kind donations. This week they gave us a selection of buns and chocolate biscuits for people to enjoy with their hot drinks. Patricia was also given tins of potatoes and baked beans to be used in future hot meals.

Outreach Update ~ Monday 5th October 2026

A damp night in the city centre but the rain thankfully stopped just before food service. We had a fair sized queue and a busy and quick shift, with 60+ callers all served and gone by 7.30.

Things started off perfectly with everyone in an orderly queue, working their way along the tables from hot food to drinks. There was banter and good chats aplenty until one guy showed up demanding to be given special treatment and refusing to join the queue. He became aggressive and rude, not only to our volunteers but to other callers who tried to rein him in. The end result was him being barred from using our services in the future, after he threw a cup of hot tea across the table at two of our team members, followed by a bottle of mayo which went everywhere!

Everything was captured on CCTV and the guys immediately radioed through to ensure we were all ok. Normal service soon resumed and the night ended peacefully.

Manning the Monday table we had Paula, Deirdre, Dona, Paul, and Julie. Despite the shock and anger we experienced, we’re all made of tough stuff, and won’t let one incident like this stop us - for now at least.

We had a lovely selection of hot meals this evening with a choice of chicken curry with rice, shepherd’s pie, sausage baps, or fish & chips with mushy peas, all provided by Paula, Deirdre, and Julie. It all went down a treat and was accompanied with sandwiches from Dona, and Julie’s parents and aunt, as well as snackpacks, lots of sweet stuff, and hot and cold drinks.

The guys in the CCTV suite for keeping eyes on us throughout our shift. The radiolink provided by the Belfast Chamber gives us the added security and reassurance we need at times.

Thanks also to all our lovely callers who were disgusted by what happened, and regularly checked on us throughout the remainder of the shift.

Outreach Update ~ Saturday 3rd October 2026

We arrived to a very large crowd waiting for service. Nice dry night, and everyone queued up in a very orderly fashion.

Troublefree shift tonight. The majority were in great form and happy to join us for a good old chat, bit of banter and some lovely food.

We were a bit worried about one of our regulars who was feeling very low tonight. The team spoke with him and offered words of comfort and encouragement. He didn't want to go into great detail with them, but the volunteers were concerned enough to pass it on to this week's team to keep an eye out for him and see how he is coping.

On the menu we had sausage pasta, sweet potato fries with chicken and gravy, mince beef tacos and hot chicken wraps. Plenty of sandwiches along with snackpacks, and sweet treats were available and lots of tea, coffee and bottled water to wash it all down.

We engaged with over 60 callers this evening. The team Carrie, Jill, Stephen, Linsey and Keith did a great job with providing a fabulous table of food, listening ears wide opened and lots of smiles for our visitors. Thankfully they had prepared enough for everyone, so no-one went without.

Thank you to them for all their continued support and dedication. When it comes to helping those less fortunate and in need of a friend, our teams will always be there and in many cases exceed expectations.

Outreach Update ~ Friday 2nd October 2026

We arrived tonight again to another huge crowd, desperately needing some food and a friendly face. Luckily we had another dry evening, although the was a definite chill in the air.

We engaged with almost 60 people during our shift. The mood was good and the atmosphere the same. We are still seeing quite a few new faces, many of them young people, which is always sad to see. The team was on hand to dish out the food, drinks and any basic essentials needed. As always they helped sign post and offered to help find emergency accommodation. Thankfully there were no referrals, so everyone had somewhere arranged to spend the night.

Food tonight was Irish stew reheated by Claire and loaded pizzas, collected by Darren. Mark and Paul supplied the sandwiches and Brendan, the tea, coffee and water. We had the usual snackpacks, as will as yummy yogurts, desserts and strawberry drinks. Everything was snapped up fairly quickly, and there was plenty to go around.

Volunteers tonight were Claire, Brendan, Mark, Darren and Paul. Very busy, but enjoyable shift without any trouble and lots of goodwill shown. Thanks to them for giving up part of their weekend after working hard all week in their jobs.

Thanks to Mooneys Master Butchers 226 Shankill Rd and Pizza Co. Stewartstown Road for their continued support each week with beef stew and extra large assorted pizzas, both definitely crowdpleasers.

Also to the gentleman who called at the table with a cheque for a very, very generous amount. We are blown away by the kindness and generosity shown to us.

Outreach Update ~ Thursday 1st October

Entering a new month, edging towards winter and thankfully it was a lovely dry night for us all. It really makes the difference, as people can have their food and hang around for a chat while its dry and not too cold.

We arrived to a lengthy queue, that at one point during service seemed to be never ending. In total we engaged with 70 callers. All got plenty to eat and drink and any basic essentials were handed out. Everyone was in good form, enjoyed the evening with us, all without any bother or concern.

Fabulous choice of hot food tonight that went down a storm. From Michelle and Natalie we had savoury mince pie/chicken kiev or salmon fillet dinners all served with potatoes and vegetables, spaghetti bolognese, chicken curry, cheese and onion slice with diced potatoes and cheesy chicken burgers. Natalie also provided assorted sandwiches, that were served with snackpacks, yogurts, fruit, tea, coffee and some lovely yogurt drinks. Everyone ate to their fill and left contented and happy.

Thanks to our wonderful Thursday team, Natalie, Karl, Ian, Ezz-Mee and Chloe who did a terrific job prepping behind the scenes and at the table. They provided an inclusive outreach and offered the hand of friendship to both old and new callers.

We extend our thanks to M&S Ballyhackamore Upper Rd for another fantastic donation of food items kindly donated via their Surplus Food Redistribution Program, and to Karl for collecting and sorting

John and Jan who regularly call with donations, brought along some tasty goodies that were much appreciated with tonight's high numbers

Outreach Update ~ Wednesday 30th September 2026

We had a fair sized queue on Wednesday evening and a very speedy service, with lots of hungry folk waiting for us.

Unfortunately a lot of pushing and queue jumping, and some pretty unacceptable cheek and a total lack of respect to our volunteers. Definitely no need for this ~ our volunteers give up their personal and family time to make sure our callers are cared for and supported. They show up week after week, after long days at work, to put others first. While the trouble makers were thankfully in the minority it still puts a strain on the shift.

Keeping everything running well tonight were Deirdre, Gareth, Ann, Lisa, and Klara. Thank you so much for everything you do 💕

Thank you tonight to Meghann and Maggie Mays for a fabulous donation of burgers, sausages and chips and sauces to compliment. Thank you also to Zuzu, Carrickfergus for their weekly takeaway. We also had chicken curry and rice made by Deirdre and Paula. Sandwiches tonight provided by the Knights of St Columbanus brought by Gareth as well as more sandwiches from Deirdre.

We also had snackpacks, Jammy Joeys, watermelon and fruit all gratefully received and washed down with tea and coffee.

Thank you to John who dropped off another large donation of biscuits and crisps.

Thank you to Richard who was a customer in Maggie Mays and donated £10 when Deirdre was picking up the hot food. He was impressed with our work and his kind donation will help us continue.

Outreach Update ~ Tuesday 29th September 2026

Cold and wet tonight for us but nevertheless the show went on and was enjoyed by all. We arrived to a small queue patiently waiting for set up, but service remained steady throughout, with us engaging with around 60 callers.

Everyone was on their best behaviour and quite a few just took their food and headed off out of the rain. We had no referrals needed for emergency accommodation, so hopefully everyone has a dry, quiet area to spend the night. Some stayed behind and had a good bit of chat and banter with the team.

On the menu tonight, we had roast chicken dinners plus some sausages and chips from Leanne, sausages, potatoes, veg and gravy from Frances K and double cheeseburgers from Julie. As always we had a great selection of sandwiches from David, Naomi and Ciar's mum who very kindly delivered some to the table. All was served with snackpacks, lots of sweet treats, cake and hot and cold drinks, so everyone was spoilt for choice. Thankfully it went to the wire and no-one went without, but no seconds were available tonight.

Thanks to our team, Julie, David, Frances K and Leanne for all their hard work both behind the scenes and on the frontline. They ensured that everyone present had an enjoyable time with them, as always without any judgement.

Outreach update ~ Monday 28th September 2026

An extremely busy and hectic shift tonight. We arrived to a person lying on the ground having taken spice and tablets. Paula immediately went to their aid and worked with them, bringing them round pretty quickly. However, five minutes later a second person went down. Paula also assisted them. They were less responsive, and unable to rouse them the NIAS was called, who arrived very quickly. They worked with the person who eventually came to. Neither needed to go to hospital and were fit enough to eat and drink with us.

The rest of the team were busily engaging with over 70 callers. All anxiously wanting some food, basic essentials or catching the attention of the volunteers to chat. Thankfully apart from a bit of jostling the night passed off peacefully.

On the menu our hot food was chicken curry with rice and pasta bolognese cooked by Paula and Deirdre, as well as a super donation of sausage suppers. All served with assorted sandwiches made by Donna, Julie's parents and auntie, as well as our usual snackpacks, fruit, buns, cake, biscuits and hot and cold drinks. Everything we had with us went in record time this evening, and unfortunately we had to refer about 10 people on to other outreach services for food.

Great work by our Monday team, Paula, Rory, Donna, Deirdre and Richard who came along to help out. They had a fairly stressful time tonight, but as always coped admirably with extreme determination. Thanks to them for their commitment in always helping those in need.
