Outreach Update ~ Tuesday 25th August 2026

A lovely dry and mild evening for us in the city centre, with a nice orderly queue waiting for us.

Tonight was a breeze for our Tuesday team, with thankfully none of the drama of last week. We had a lovely shift, no trouble to report, and we had time to have some really good conversations.

One of our regulars is having a difficult time with her health, and has ended up in A&E twice without a positive outcome. Hopefully she will get some relief very soon.

Tonight on the menu we had a choice of roast chicken dinners from Leeanne, cheeseburgers from Julie, and sausage pasta from Chelsea. Frances and David supplied the sandwiches, Julie brought extra sukies and a tray of biscuits, Frances supplied the milk, and Chelsea the water.

Big thanks to our team out tonight. We had Julie F, Leeanne, Frances M, David, and Chelsea, all on the front line. Every one of them gave 100% to make sure each of our callers was well looked after, and received whatever support they needed.

Outreach Update ~ Monday 24th August 2026

A gorgeous evening in the city centre and a small queue waiting for us. It was a stop-start kind of night with a rush, a lull for a while, then another rush before we finished up. During the lulls we had a bit of banter and some good chats with our callers.

It was a lovely, trouble free shift with everyone in the best of form. It was also great to report that there was no sign of any Spice va**ng, which has sadly become a common occurrence.

Lots of compliments for tonight’s menu, with a choice of chicken burgers, fish & chips with mushy peas, pie with mash & veg, and curry chips, all courtesy of Deirdre, Paula, and Julie. Sandwiches this evening were provided by Dona, Rory, and Julie’s parents and aunt, and added to the snackpacks with fruit and bottles of water.

Huge thanks to all of the following:

Ruth and Terry Bayles for all their continued support. Their weekly donation to our foodbank contains all the essentials for a food parcel to help someone experiencing food poverty, while their donation of fruit for our outreach table, and dog food for our four legged friends, is always well received.

Raymond, Peggy, and Josie, who work away in the background making up snackpacks for all our teams as well as sandwiches for our Monday table.

The Sloan family who donated £50 in memory of their beloved John, and our new neighbour Christy who made a very kind donation of £20, all going towards the work we do with the homeless and vulnerable in our city.

The The Welcome Outreach team who called round to bring a guy to hospital.

Last but not least, our Monday team who gave their all this evening to make sure no one went without ~ Paula, Deirdre, Dona, Rory, and Julie. Thank you so much each and every one of you for your support, companionship, and kind hearts.

Outreach Update ~ Saturday 22nd August 2026

Sizeable queue formed, all eagerly waiting for dinner. Lovely, dry evening that is always a big plus for us. The mood was lifted tonight as one of our callers played music for us. It really made such a difference and the atmosphere was brilliant. Lots of chatter, smiles and good humour was around the table in bucket loads.

Lovely selection of hot food available, chicken curry with rice, spaghetti bolognese, hot chicken wraps and sausages with chips. All meals were cooked by Jenna and Paul. Linsey and Glenn provided assorted sandwiches, that were served along with fruit, snack packs, tea, coffee and bottled water.

Tonight turned into a busy enough shift, and thankfully remained peaceful and troublefree. However, we did run out of hot food towards the end, but still had plenty of sandwiches that the guys were more than happy with.

A great job, well done by our Saturday team, Jenna, Paul, Linsey and thanks to Glenn for stepping in to help out. They made sure everyone got all they needed with food, drinks, advice and as always a keen listening ear.

Outreach Update ~ Friday 21st August 2026

Mild evening in town, with a very long queue of folk patiently awaiting our arrival. While hurriedly setting up there was a bit of aggro from a guy who appeared to want an argument with anyone up for it. Everyone ignored him and seeing no-one was rising to the challenge he stormed off, much to the delight of us all. Although things started a little volatile, calm was restored and we had a great night together. Lots of good chats, laughter and the usual banter was in full swing, which made for a very enjoyable shift.

Tonight we served stew, mince steak, potatoes and peas and extra large pizzas. Along with assorted sandwiches we had fruit, snack-packs, tea, coffee and biscuits on the side.

We send our thanks to Mooneys Master Butchers 226 Shankill Rd for a fantastic donation of stew and mince and onion dinners. Also to Pizza Co, Stewartstown Road for their weekly donation of extra large, fully topped, mouthwatering pizzas.

Thanks to two monetary donations from Maddie and a male wishing to remain anonymous, food and toiletries for the foodbank from two young ladies and Siobhann and Joe who regularly call to see us with a generous donation of clothing.

Finally massive thanks to our volunteers, Gerry, Claire, Brendan, Mark and Cathy who were rushed off their feet, not only at the table but behind the scenes. All to ensure our callers had a good meal and were able to stand among friends, putting the world to rights and setting their hardships aside for an hour.

It’s always great to meet up with Laura Somerville and our favourite girl Evie. This time around we were picking up a fantastic donation of baby food, nappies, and baby goods, all donated by their friend Jacqueline, as well as Ann Rainey’s fundraising.

We also received a very generous monetary donation from Ann and John’s fundraisers, which went a long way to helping us restock our Foodbank after our recent move.

Huge thanks to all of their families, friends, and all those who support the fundraisers. In doing so, they support the work we do to help the homeless and vulnerable in our city ❤️

Outreach Update ~ Thursday 20th August 2026

Chilly night in town, but thankfully remained dry. The atmosphere around the table was anything but chilly, and our callers enjoyed a good night with us. We arrived to a smaller than normal crowd gathered, but many more came as the shift progressed. We engaged with around 55 callers, who all got plenty of food, drinks, treats and any basic essentials needed.

Trouble free tonight. Great chats and lovely catching up with a few old faces. We were able to signpost a few newly homeless guys to other services to help with their search for accommodation.

Tonight we served sweet and sour chicken with rice from Naomi, and stew and spaghetti bolognese cooked by Natalie. We also had assorted salad packs, sandwiches, snackpacks, homemade buns, sweet treats served with hot and cold drinks. Everyone ate to their fill and a few stayed behind, patiently waiting for seconds that were available.

Great work from our volunteers this evening. We are still a bit short staffed due to illness, but Naomi, Karl, Chloe and Ezz-Mee did a fantastic job, serving food, chatting, collecting donations and above all on hand with a compassionate listening ear.

Thanks also to M&S Ballyhackamore Upper Rd for another fantastic donation of assorted food items kindly donated via their Surplus Food Redistribution Program. Also for a kind donation of buns left over from a funeral.

Outreach Update ~ Wednesday 19th August 2027

A wet night in the town tonight and a small queue waiting for the team to set up.

A quick service and thankfully no trouble at all this evening ~ a relief for everyone after Tuesday’s running battles. Everyone was very grateful for the hot food, some moving straight on because of the rain, others milling about for a chat, good company, and waiting for the inevitable seconds.

Towards the end of the shift a young guy who had been at our table all night, became very unwell. He’d taken spice among other things today and he slid down the wall beside us and lost consciousness. We called an ambulance and Shannen radioed for help and the Welcome said they’d come round to help. However the ambulance crew arrived promptly and we packed up while Kevin was attended to by the paramedics. Praying he makes a full recovery and gets any support he needs.

Our hot food tonight was a choice of chicken Kiev, veg and mash from Julie and Paula, a great selection of Chinese takeaway from Zuzu, Carrickfergus, and sausage baps from Deirdre. We also had sandwiches from Meghann and Deirdre, as well as fruit, and hot and cold drinks ~ plenty to please everyone.

Shannen, Meghann, Lisa, Klara and Deirdre were volunteering tonight, and James came along for a trial shift. Thank you so much everyone for all your continued hard work and dedication, and for the love and support you show to our callers.

Outreach Update ~ Tuesday 18th August 2026

We had a mild and dry evening in the city centre, thankfully missing the rain.

Our volunteers tonight were Julie F, Laura, Leeanne, Tommy, and Chelsea. Tonight was Laura’s last night with us as she’s starting a new job in Scotland. Thank you Laura for all of your help and dedication during your time with us ~ We wish you all the very best!

Unfortunately a couple of incidents during the shift, with the ambulance service and PSNI both required. First off we were alerted to a young man who had overdosed. Chelsea and Julie called for an ambulance, and administered Naloxone on their instructions. He thankfully immediately came round and we left him in the care of the paramedics who arrived quickly.

The other incident involved fights breaking out between several of our callers. Julie radioed it through while the team packed up, and the police were soon on the scene with a couple of arrests being made.

We’ve now had a couple of weeks of agression and fighting, and we worry that someone is going to end up seriously hurt. We will not tolerate this behaviour and if the need arises, our teams will be withdrawn from the street. Our volunteers safety is paramount.

We are primarily a feeding station for those most in need. On tonight’s menu we had a choice of roast chicken dinners from Leeanne, cheeseburgers from Julie, and sausage pasta from Chelsea. Laura and Tommy supplied the sandwiches. Tommy also brought the milk, Julie a tray of biscuits, sweets and Sukies, and Chelsea the water.

Huge thanks to our volunteers this evening on such a challenging night. Their compassion and dedication is second to none ~ we just hope we can continue to do what we do best in a safe environment for everyone.

Outreach Update ~ Monday 17th August 2026

A damp and miserable night in the city centre with rain for most of the shift. We still had a queue waiting for us to arrive, all availing of the shelter under the canopy at Blinkers.

It was a quiet and quick service, no bother from anyone at all and thankfully none of the aggro which some of our volunteers experienced last week. We chatted to a guy new to the streets and advised him to head to the The Welcome drop-in hub first thing in the morning. Another young girl was very upset and clearly under the influence. We had a good chat with her and she left with one of her friends who promised to look after her.

A great selection of food on offer this evening with a choice of fish & chips with mushy peas from Paula, chicken burgers from Deirdre, and bbq chicken chunks with wedges from Julie. Dona, Rory, Raymond, Peggy and Josie all made sandwiches, and we added them to snackpacks along with fruit and yogurt pots.

Thanks as always to our Monday back room team ~ Raymond, Peggy, and Josie. Their sandwiches always go down a treat and the work and effort they put into making up snackpacks for all our teams is really valued.

Thank you to our great friends Ruth and Terry who provided their fantastic weekly donation to our foodbank, and fruit for tonight’s callers.

Tommy Kerr from Compassion Belfast who dropped off fruit and bread to us today ~ enough to keep our teams going for a couple of days.

Outreach Update ~ Friday 14th August 2026

Smaller than usual queue formed tonight. Although more people came along as the shift progressed, it was relatively quiet all round. It did give us the chance to engage with everyone; be it a catch up, signposting or a bit of banter and laughter. Most folk were in good form, although a couple had taken drugs, but were coherent enough to chat with us and have some food.

Thankfully the weather was on our side this evening and quite a few stayed behind until the end enjoying the craic, while others waited to see if seconds were available.

Tonight we were a little short staffed due to illness and holidays. Anne and Jackie from the foodbank were able to rustle up a chicken curry that Gerry reheated and Darren collected our weekly donation of extra large pizzas. Paul and Claire provided the sandwiches and Gerry the hot drinks, sweet treats, biscuits and bottled water. All our callers had plenty to eat and anyone wanting seconds were able to have it.

As always massive thanks to Pizza Co, Stewartstown Road for their continued support with beautiful extra large with assorted toppings pizzas that our guys love.

Also a thank you to the volunteers, Paul, Claire, Gerry and Darren who did a wonderful job ensuring everyone was well looked after and got all they needed. With extra duties and lots of work behind the scenes they all deserve a medal. We send get well soon wishes to team leader Cathy and hope to see her back soon.
