Picture the scene.

You are a Housing Support Advisor, and you're calling in to see Jordan. She's just turned 19 and living independently for the first time.

When you arrive, Jordan tells you she received a text saying her Housing Benefit has stopped, but she ignored it because she didn't understand what it meant. A pile of unopened letters sits on the table, including one from the landlord.

Jordan hasn't been attending her college course recently and admits she's been staying in bed most days. Her fridge is almost empty, money is running low, and she's fallen out of touch with most of her friends.

He wants to sort things out but feels overwhelmed and doesn't know where to start.

Good morning! Some of our supporters use CAF bank as a way of donating towards BCM's work. Their service has been down over the weekend due to an outage, and some transactions will have been delayed. They hope it will be up and running again as soon as possible.

Summer can be an expensive time for young families, and that cost can be especially prohibitive for those facing financial hardship or challenges that many of us face during our lives.

Our Parent Support Service in Dungannon/Armagh recently held a Parent & Child Pottery Workshop to provide a fun and interactive opportunity for parents and their kids to come together, try something new and spend that quality time together that can sometimes be difficult to find.

Our parents had commented how there was plenty in the community to send the kids to but very little activities they could both go to together so thanks to donations towards our service - we were able to provide it.

Huge thanks to the lovely Joanne at Let STArt with Art who facilitated and commented on how fantastic all the final pieces turned out 🎨📷

Can you help our Puddleducks Day Nursery with craft materials?

This is a crafty call out to our Puddleducks Community- we are looking for ideas!

As some of you will know, the excellent Play Resource Centre in Belfast closed its doors a few months ago. This provided arts and craft materials (all repurposed) at an affordable rate for our kids. We are now spending much more on craft materials, and we want to find local businesses who would work with us to provide regular top ups of repurposed play resources, including:

* Card sheets
* Cardboard tubes
* Egg boxes or similar
* Plastic trays for paint
* Paints, crayons and other drawing resources
* Anything else coloured or sparkly that can safely be used for children's craft

We are used to paying a steady cost price for such items, but the retail rate to buy these individually in the amounts we go through is significant.

So if you have ideas, contacts or a business need that this actually fixes, get in touch!

So picture the scene. You are a housing support advisor, and you visit Mary every Friday in her home to check in on her. She is signed up to receive housing support with BCM, and at age 90, Mary has early signs of dementia, having lived alone since her husband passed ten years ago.

This week you enter to see multiple bills and letters lying behind the door unopened, the lights are off and don't seem to be coming on. There is a bad smell coming from the fridge, and Mary has seemingly been stacking boxes of clothes in her hallway. Mary seems confused -not her usual energetic self, and checking what she has been eating and drinking, she appears to have been eating biscuits and little else since her fridge went off. She says that she hasn't the energy to walk five minutes to the shop for food.

Mary's daughter lives in England, but she hasn't spoken to her, or really anyone this week, as her landline phone doesn't seem to be working. She is normally so well dressed but today is still in her dressing gown.

We are fully into summer, and we want to revisit our Summer Appeal, which this year is providing direct additional support for families within our Parent Support services.

Our teams have the skills, and our teams have the will, but even with the best advice, sometimes what we lack is just the means to pay a bill, (I've somehow started rhyming, but let's roll with it).

So when a child needs a school uniform, or a stressed mum or dad feels unable, this money goes click/ collect -> food on table. When late rent is needing paid while a benefit payment is delayed, this money comes into play.

It's little things, that help big things get done. It's a release valve when the pressure seems to weigh a ton. It's keeping families united and looking ahead, its easing the nagging of overdraft dread. It's encouraging wee ones to thrive at school desks, and have the tools to cope with life's tests.

The group enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Royal Court Hotel before spending the afternoon taking in the beautiful seaside views and making the most of a fantastic day together.

Outings like this are a great opportunity to socialise, make memories, and enjoy a change of scenery. We already looking forward to the next trip! 💙

Thanks to support from our Summer Appeal, one of our service users has been able to complete an at-home nail course while caring for her young baby. As attending a classroom setting wasn't practical, this gave her the flexibility to learn from home.

She also received a desk and chair, allowing her to create a comfortable workspace and welcome clients again.

Here's what she had to say:

"This grant has helped me as I had no proper table in my house to do nails. At the time I was using my bedside table and my ottoman, but with the help of BCM I can now finally bring clients in again and have a comfortable setting for myself and them. I really appreciate everything that has been done for me."
