BCM NI

BCM NI Supporting people at their point of need in Northern Ireland BCM is one of Northern Ireland’s oldest charities, working with all sectors of the community.

What is BCM (Belfast Central Mission)? Founded in 1889 as part of the Methodist Church’s response to problems inherent in inner-city life, BCM is involved with all sectors of the community, irrespective of religious or political affiliation. In the words of its founder “Need not creed”. BCM seeks to meet the needs of the whole person; spiritual, emotional and physical, through its three congregations and wide range of community services projects, and diverse social care programme.

Thanks to all who attended our Thomas Street afternoon tea last Sunday at Desertcreat. The team had a wonderful time alongside the marvellous Sperrin Choir, and they raised £800 for our resident's fund.

Special shout out to Craig who has gone the extra mile to fundraise over recent weeks too through both this event and a sponsored hill walk.

The BCM Riverside Team is taking on a 13-mile coastal challenge to raise funds for the young people living at Riverside Place Supported Housing.

The funds raised will go directly towards supporting our residents with essentials such as clothing and personal care items, while also helping to provide opportunities for activities and experiences!

If you'd like to support our team you can donate here.

With it being Volunteers Week and all that, sure it wouldn't be right not to put a wee callout for new volunteers. This is directed at you! 🥸 ... yes you on your phone!

Volunteering changes lives- but not for the reasons you would expect. I got chatting to a befriender the other day who admitted that their reasons for getting involved seemed somewhat selfish. Initially it was to provide a wee bit of feelgood/ fill a couple of hours of post retirement blues. But once the bug gets you, volunteering starts means so much more- you realise you're part of something bigger, and that if not saving lives, you are making life better for the people who really need it.

So let's hear from you- our volunteer manager loves making a fuss over new volunteers and we especially need befrienders right now! See photos of our recent cream tea for evidence of said fussing.

Visit our website to find out more, and start something good. I'll stick a link in the comments about befriending in Belfast too.

Yesterday, we heard from Carol about her role in our Befriending Service and what it entails.

Today, we're going to hear from another one of our volunteers 💙 Throughout the week, we'll be hearing from volunteers across our organisation and learning more about what they get up to in their roles.

It’s Volunteers’ Week! 🌟

From 1st–7th June, we’re celebrating the volunteers who give their time and support to help our communities.

Throughout the week, we’ll be hearing from volunteers from across the organisation to learn more about their roles, what they enjoy most about volunteering and the people they support.

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers – we couldn’t do it without you! TopFan

In honour of Dementia Action Week, we spent some time chatting with our Lunch Club members about the ways they like to stay active.

These conversations reminded us that staying active can look different for everyone — and that even the smallest activities can bring joy and routine🩵

Thanks to our 25/26 EVAWG (Ending Violence Against Women & Girls) funding, Ards Project has recently been able to purchase a range of valuable new resources to support our work.

These resources have already made a real difference within our group sessions and one-to-one support across both our Parenting and Housing Support projects. 💜
