There are many young people in Northern Ireland who care for someone else, it's important that you get the help and support that you need. Who is a Young Carer?

There are many young people in Northern Ireland who care for someone else. A Young Carer is anyone aged between 8 and 18 who have a significant caring role. This could be looking after a brother or sister with Autism, looking after your mother who has a physical disability or looking after someone with mental health or addiction problems. Whatever the situation Action For Children are here to help. What we do:

The service offers Young Carers a break from their caring role. This is in the form of large group activities e.g. rock-climbing, arts and crafts and an annual residential. Small group activities and workshops focusing on being a young carer, issues affecting young people such as sexual health, young men and women groups. Information About Illness

This morning our family support practitioners Julie and Cathy presented to 'The Mental Health & Learning Disability Social Work Forum'. A wonderful event to raise awareness of carers in the Belfast Trust. During the presentation Action for Children had the platform to discuss how to identify a young carer, the referral process and how we support our service users. Julie and Cathy were also able to highlight the significant impact being a young carer has and some of the many ways our young people support their families. Margaret McDonald from The Carers Support Service was also attending and provided valuable information concerning adult carers in the Belfast Trust. Thank you to Fiona Po***ck the Interim Principal Social Worker of Mental Health & CAMHS for inviting us along!

💙 Raising awareness, making connections, and supporting young carers. 💙

We were delighted to attend the SERC Freshers' Fairs, where we had the opportunity to engage with young people, raise awareness of the Young Carers Service, and highlight what it means to be a young carer.

Every conversation helps more young people recognise that they are not alone and that support is available. Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit our stand and learn more about the vital role young carers play in our communities.

🌟 Young Carers Rollerblading Trip 🛼

This month, our Young Carers had a fantastic time rollerblading and enjoying some well deserved fun with friends at The Rink! It was great to see everyone building confidence, trying something new, and supporting one another along the way.

The PKAVS Young Carers and their support workers Mike and Maddison were on a respite trip to Belfast and we had the pleasure of meeting up with them in our Belfast office! Some of our own young carers came along also to share their experiences and good practice. We enjoyed pizza and tray bakes while creating some class bags and t shirts! It was wonderful to see what work the guys in Perth are doing to support their young carers and to share all that we offer here in Northern Ireland! A great night's craic had by all! Thank you to the staff at Boulder World Belfast! Our young people had a fabulous time free climbing last week! The young carers from Belfast and SET showed bravery, strength and enthusiasm throughout the session and let us know that they thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Well done guys! 😄

🏹 Young Carers Residential Trip - Day 2 🏹
What a fantastic way to round off our residential at Lorne Estate!
Day two was packed with adventure as our young people took on archery, the Gladiator Challenge, the Flintstones cart-building challenge and the zip wire. Everyone embraced the activities with enthusiasm and plenty of determination.
The fun continued with our quiz night and a competitive game of rounders, bringing lots of laughs and friendly competition along the way.
A huge thank you to all of our young people who attended and helped make the residential such an enjoyable few days. We'd also like to thank the team at Lorne Estate for their support and for helping make the trip possible

🌿 Young Carers Residential Trip - Day 1 🌿
Our Young Carers residential got off to a great start at Lorne Estate! After arriving and getting settled in, the group wasted no time getting involved in team-building activities and bushcraft challenges.
The day was rounded off with a lovely walk along the beach, giving everyone the chance to relax, enjoy the scenery and make the most of their surroundings. With lots of enthusiasm, energy and smiles from the very beginning, it was the perfect start to a fantastic few days away❤️

🧗‍♀️🏹 Adventure Day in Rostrevor!
Our Young Carers enjoyed an action-packed day with Cloughmor Extreme, taking part in archery and rock climbing.

It was brilliant to see everyone challenging themselves, supporting one another, and having fun together. Our young people showed great determination and teamwork throughout the day and made some fantastic memories along the way.

A huge thank you to the team at Cloughmor Extreme Adventures for such a great experience! 💚

You can't beat a wee day at Pickie! Pitch & Putt, some ice cream and of course the Swans! We all had a great time and look forward to returning next summer!!! 😁
