JoinHer Network alongside incredABLE youth joined a wider delegation of young leaders and practitioners from Germany, Romania, France, travelled to Morocco last December to take part in a week-long academy hosted by Alternatives for Childhood and Youth, in partnership with Development Trusts NI and the Euro-Med Federation of Socio-Cultural and Neighborhood Centers.

This experience was more than a programme. It was a lived expression of what happens when safe, intentional spaces are created for self-reflection, shared learning, and honest dialogue across difference.

Through cultural exchange, participants didn’t just learn about each other, they learned with and from each other. Stories, traditions, histories, and cuisines became bridges, deepening understanding and challenging assumptions. Immersion in Moroccan culture from heritage sites to local customs and offered a meaningful lens into identity, belonging, and global interconnectedness.

The academy’s collaborative workshops, led by international partners, created space to engage critically with some of the most pressing issues shaping young people’s lives today including migration, freedom of movement, peacebuilding, tackling hate and extremism, youth participation, and the role of AI.

Thank you Joanna , Claire , Arianna and Shafiqa for sharing your insights and a truely memorable chapter for JoinHer Network. Creating spaces where voices are heard, identities are honoured, and young people are equipped, not just to navigate the future, but to lead it.

International Women’s Day reminds us that progress is never achieved alone. It grows through shared purpose, collective courage, and the willingness to invest in one another.
