🏔️ West Highland Way… COMPLETE! 🥾

Starting in Kinlochleven, we made our way through the Larig Mor to the finish line in Fort William.

🦟 Midge fest — there were those who could manage them and those who absolutely couldn’t! Thank goodness for midge nets! 😂

A very proud moment as we were piped through Fort William by our very own Cadet before crossing the finish line. 🎶🏴

And, of course, we proudly posed beside the man with the sore feet for our celebratory photos! 📸😂

A huge well done to all our Cadets and adults who completed the challenge. You should be immensely proud of yourselves — we certainly are! 💪👏

A massive thank you to all our Mountain Leaders. You really are amazing! Thank you for your encouragement, expertise and determination in getting everyone safely across that finish line. You are inspiring the next generation and showing them what can be achieved with teamwork, resilience and a little bit of determination. ❤️

Day 5… West Highland Way 🥾🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The penultimate day of our Scottish adventure and we took on the mighty Devil’s Staircase before descending the long winding track into Kinlochleven.

Amazing views across Glencoe and the Mamores — Scotland has certainly delivered! And we even got some Scottish summer sunshine ☀️

We’ve now really got into the swing of multi-day walking, and today’s slightly shorter day was completed with ease. Blue skies and sunny weather definitely helped!

Now it’s full steam ahead for tomorrow — our longest day yet, 16 miles and 700m ascent will be embraced with the same spirit as everyday of the walk so far as we head for the finish line in Fort William. 💪

Day 4 — West Highland Way 🥾🏴

Thankfully, the waterproofs stayed safely tucked away in the rucksack for most of the day! ☀️

Today we started in Bridge of Orchy before crossing the remote and rugged Rannoch Moor and dropping down towards the Glencoe Ski Centre. And what a reward awaited us — incredible views of Buachaille Etive Mòr.

Scotland at its absolute finest! 🏔️

Another big day in the legs, covering 19km. Tired legs, sore feet and a few blisters... but we are proud of all our achievements so far! 💪🥾

West Highland Way – Day 3 🥾🌧️
The toughest day so far — both technical walking terrain and challenging weather conditions.

The heavy rain didn’t dampen our spirits, but our feet are now definitely feeling the miles! 🥾😅

A foot care clinic and a much-needed stretch session delivered by adult instructors helped us recover and get ready for the next stage.

The drying room is fully packed... dry shoes again in the morning! 💪

Tired, sore, wet… but still smiling! 💪🌧️⛰️

Day 2… West Highland Way 🥾🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Drymen ➡️ Conic Hill ➡️ Balmaha ➡️ the shores of Loch Lomond.

The challenge continues! Day 2 brought our first real bit of uphill as we tackled the slopes of Conic Hill. The heavens opened just in time for lunch, so unfortunately it was a rather wet refuelling stop! 🌧️🥪 But keeping the energy levels up is all part of the challenge.

A descent into Balmaha followed, with the clouds finally lifting, rewarding us with some amazing views stretching all the way up Loch Lomond. 🏔️💙

Another day done, another step closer! 💪🥾

Day 1 on the West Highland Way! 🥾🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
Starting at Milngavie, we were all set to embark on our adventure. Spirits were high, the excitement was building, and thankfully, we were prepared for the Scottish weather… 🌧️😂
A day of mostly rain, stunning scenery when we could see it but most of all plenty of laughs — and the first steps of an incredible journey!
The cadets were introduced to the theory of Type 1 and Type 2 Fun! 🥾😄
Type 1 fun is the kind you enjoy in the moment, while Type 2 fun is the kind you appreciate afterwards — usually once the aches, tired legs and challenging weather have passed! Something we are all keeping in our minds when the sore feet begin!
A great way for the cadets to think about the challenges and rewards that come with adventure and outdoor activities.
When we dry our kit... Bring on Day 2! 💪🥾

🥾 EX West Highland Way – The Adventure Has Started!

The 1st Battalion ACF are officially on the move! 💪🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
After months of planning, preparations and training walks we have stepped out on the West Highland Way.
Bring on the West Highland Way! ⛰️

•West Highland way | 1st Battalion ACF•

Our Cadets throughout the battalion are preparing for another adventure! Travelling 96 miles from Milngavie to Fort William in 6 days. Their journey officially begins on the 16th of August and finishes on the 23rd.

This adventurous challenge allows our cadets to truly test their skills, work independently alongside within a team and experience an amazing opportunity.
