Resilient Child Year two is wrapping up!

Resilient Child is part of our education and engagement programme, and its purpose is to let primary children explore themes such as hope, respect and empathy through fun and creative activities designed to encourage self-expression and confidence.

As we finish Year two we asked Hannah, our Education assistant, to tell us a few of her highlights from the year. You can read Hannah’s blog at https://youngatart.co.uk/resilient-child-year-two/ to learn more and get an insight into Resilient Child!

Thank you to the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Arts Council of Northern Ireland , Foras na Gaeilge and Garfield Weston Foundation for their continued financial support in year two of Resilient Child. Thank you for the additional funding we have received from Esme Mitchell, Victoria Homes Trust, Halifax Foundation for Northern Ireland and RTÉ Toy Show Appeal.

Happy United Nations International Day of Play! A global celebration of the power of play in supporting children’s health, happiness, and development.

Play is every child’s right under Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and is essential for building happy, healthy children. Every child needs the time and space to play.

At Young at Art, we know the importance of play in helping Children build confidence, critical thinking and resilience. This is our key focus in our Resilient Child Programme.

Our festival family day out as part of Belfast Children’s Festival encourages children and young people to explore creativity and express their ideas.

In May, our general manager, Kelly-Anne, attended the Performing Arts Forum and was a part of the panel “What Can We Do Together That We Cannot Do Apart?”

The discussion reflected on the power of collaboration from artists and organisers working with others to grow their impact and strengthen their practice. Kelly-Anne talked about our Shall We Together project working with Commedia of Errors, bringing different expertise – us as a children’s arts provider and their Plays Aloud experience with older people. Through collaboration we brought very young children, older people and wider community together through movement workshops and a shared interactive performance visit.

Kelly-Anne spoke alongside Thomas Wells (Array Collective ), Gráinnemir Abualrob (Friends of Freedom Theatre Ireland), Sarah Byrne ( Galway Theatre Festival), and Rachel Melaugh (In Your Space Circus) chaired by Maria Fleming (NCFA).

In May, Kate, our Box Office and Marketing assistant attended Arts & Business NI’s “Financing Creativity: Models for Arts & Culture” at Templemore Baths.

The session looked at finance models, understanding how different funding approaches affect artistic freedom, equity, and long-term sustainability.

The event included a thought-provoking panel discussion with Edel O’Reilly & Liam Slevin from The Auxiliary in Middlesbrough, Nuala McGreary from Maiden Voyage Dance and Ray Griffin from The Duncairn, about the power of partnership and cross-collaboration rooted in shared values.

The session also highlighted the benefits of Arts and Business Blueprint project which Young at Art is grateful to be a part of.

Young at Art will be at the NICVA SUMMIT taking place on Wednesday 10 June at ICC Belfast

This is NI’s flagship event for the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector, bringing together the people, ideas and leadership driving social change.

Our director Eibhlín, will be part of an interactive session “Seen and Heard - Creative methods that can get children's voices heard”. The workshop will encourage organisations to rethink how children’s voices are heard, valued and acted upon, highlighting examples of best practice and the role of creative arts in amplifying those voices.

The SUMMIT is a great way to connect with peers, partners and policymakers in the sector.
