The Slievenaman ladies enjoyed their annual summer outing - this year to Donaghadee! First stop - Pier 36 for food and fuel (tea, coffee and scones to start the day). โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿซ–๐Ÿฐ

๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ›Ÿโš“๏ธ Next, it was on to the Lifeboat Station Museum (home of the Sir Samuel Kelly Project), where the group was greeted by Station Master John. The museum holds the restored Samuel Kelly Lifeboat and John spoke about its courageous crew which rescued 33 people from the worst maritime disaster in the Irish Sea since the Second World War - the MV Princess Victoria car ferry foundered just off the Copeland Islands in 1953. Despite the heroic efforts, 136 people lost their lives. The ladies were fascinated by the stories John shared, as well as his guided tour of the exhibition.

๐Ÿชด๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐ŸดRefreshments and retail therapy followed later at Hillmount Garden Centre, with a further shopping spree afterwards in Newtownards town. The great day out came to a close with a lovely meal in French's Cafe & Bistro, Clough.

Aghadowey members enjoyed their summer outing to Glenarm Castle and Gardens. On arrival, they were welcomed with tea/coffee and scones, before taking a leisurely stroll around the gorgeous and green Walled Gardens - which were looking their best in the beautiful sunshine! ๐ŸŒณ..Of course, a spot of retail therapy followed in the many surrounding boutique shops and craft outlets.๐Ÿ›๏ธ

๐Ÿฐ Then, onto the Castle itself - where the group was greeted by George the Butler, who gave an enthralling guided tour of the majestic building - a time to hear of history, family treasures and amusing insights into castle life.
๐Ÿฉท Sandra Serplus commented, "It was very impressive to learn of all the improvements and innovations that the Earl of Antrim has integrated to bring the Estate into a modern day tourist hub and events space."

A late lunch was enjoyed in the adjacent coffee shop, before taking the scenic bus journey back home to Aghadowey. ๐ŸŒ…

๐ŸฐThe Eglinton ladies rounded off the 2025-26 WI season with their summer trip - to Killymoon Castle in Cookstown. The group was warmly welcomed with morning coffee, and given a guided tour of the magnificent grade A listed building. The weather was beautiful and the ladies also had a chance to view the property's picturesque gardens.๐ŸŒณ
Next up, it was on to The Linen Green shopping village in Moygashel for a popular WI pastime - retail therapy! ๐Ÿ›๏ธ
At the end of a productive day, with many purchases made, it was time for dinner together in the Glenavon House Hotel, Cookstown.๐Ÿด

The first stop was in Randalstown for morning coffee - beautifully prepared and served by the lovely ladies of Randalstown WI. โ˜•๏ธ

Back on the coach and bound for M&S at Sprucefield, the group soon got to grips with a wee bit of retail therapy! ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ›’

Mid-afternoon meant another shopping trip, this time in Moira with a stroll along the bustling Main Street - where plenty more purchases were made! ๐ŸŒบ
..Before journeying back to Moneymore via Dungannon, everyone enjoyed a beautiful evening meal in Edenmore House, Magheralin.

Well done to the talented members of Magherafelt Womenโ€™s Institute who contributed to a vibrant display of colour, craftwork, creativity and community spirit as part of the Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann 2026 in Belfast!

The Magherafelt ladies were delighted to create pieces as part of the Great Belfast Fleadh Yarn Bomb, an inspiring community project co-ordinated by Libraries NI, which brought together knitting and crochet groups from across the province. ๐ŸŽป๐Ÿช‰๐Ÿ’š

Inspired by traditional Irish music, dance, heritage and culture, crafters created hundreds of handmade pieces which transformed and adorned Belfast Central Library into a joyful celebration of creativity. The colourful installation provided a warm welcome for visitors, while showcasing the incredible talent that exists within local communities, over the 8 days of the Fleadh, 2nd-9th August.

"Every stitch told a story of time, care and craftsmanship, reflecting the dedication of volunteers who continue to keep traditional skills alive for future generations. Womenโ€™s Institute members have long used their talents to enrich their local communities, and seeing their work displayed as part of such a large-scale cultural celebration was both a proud and rewarding experience."
