🦉 Have you seen this bird?

Barn Owl Watch Week is coming! From 24–30 August, we’re encouraging people across Northern Ireland to keep their eyes – and ears – open for one of our rarest breeding birds.

With fewer than 30 breeding pairs remaining, every sighting can help us build a clearer picture of where barn owls are found and support their conservation. This year, we’re particularly keen to hear about sightings from western counties of Northern Ireland, where records remain limited.

Over the coming week, we’ll help you:

🦉Tell a barn owl from a long-eared owl
🦉Recognise owl calls
🦉Bust common owl myths
🦉Submit your own sightings

Keep an eye on our channels next week to find out how you can get involved.

Every sighting counts. 🦉 Report a barn owl today 👉https://loom.ly/wOyuosI

🦪 A first for Northern Ireland’s seas!

This World Oyster Day, we're delighted to reveal Northern Ireland’s first floating oyster reef at Glenarm Marina – an innovative new step in our work to restore the native European oyster and bring back a lost marine habitat.

This floating reef provides a sheltered home for more than 10,000 young oysters, helping them grow and thrive while recreating the conditions of a natural oyster reef at sea.

But oyster reefs are about so much more than oysters. These incredible habitats help improve water quality, support marine wildlife and create healthier, more resilient seas.

We’re also using Eco-Detect’s machine learning monitoring system to discover what species are using this new habitat, day and night, helping us build the evidence needed to restore oyster reefs at a larger scale.

This project builds on our first native oyster seabed deployment in Belfast Lough earlier this year and marks another exciting milestone in our mission to restore these vital marine habitats.
