Andy is banking on puffins for the new banknotes πŸ’΅

As our Nature Reserves Manager, he knows just how special it was to discover puffins nesting on our Isle of Muck Nature Reserve last year for the first time in our 25-year history of managing this seabird sanctuary.

Their return marks an important milestone in the recovery of this much-loved seabird and highlights the impact of our long-term conservation efforts.

Now, puffins are in the running to become one of the new wildlife faces of UK banknotes.

πŸ¦ͺ The Wild Wee Grafters πŸ¦”

Some of our wildlife and wild places go the extra mile in delivering for nature, people and our wider environment.

Small urban gardens offer a lifeline for struggling hedgehogs. A tiny oyster can clean a bathtub of water in a single day. An ancient oak can support over 2,000 species alone.

In the next 10 days, we are trying to raise Β£5,000 for the hardest-working heroes that give hope for a world where people and nature thrive.

It’s a tight window and a considerable amount of money.

Can you spare Β£5 or more and be one of the 1,000 nature champions that gives these small but mighty grafters the support they deserve to work their magic?

Ross is banking on pine martens for the new banknotes πŸ’΅

As our Priority Species Officer, he's seen first-hand the remarkable comeback pine martens have made across Northern Ireland in recent years.

We are currently assisting with the All-Ireland Squirrel and Pine Marten Survey, helping to build a clearer picture of how this charismatic native mammal is recovering across the island.

Now, pine martens are in the running to become one of the new wildlife faces of UK banknotes.

Help put Ireland's hedgehogs on the map!πŸ¦”πŸ—ΊοΈ

We're proud to be supporting the Great Big All-Ireland Hedgehog Count, led by Hedgehog Conservation Ireland, from 8–15 June.

This week, we're asking everyone to keep an eye out for hedgehogs and report any sightings to help build a better picture of how these much-loved mammals are doing across the island.

Take an evening stroll in your garden, local park or the countryside and see what wildlife you can spot. If you see a hedgehog – or sadly, a roadkill hedgehog – please report it at https://loom.ly/RRoV6Gc

Every record counts and can help conservation efforts for this declining species.

⚠️ Please stay safe when out after dark and remember: never disturb, handle or pick up hedgehogs.

A new report has revealed the shocking impact bycatch is having on marine wildlife in UK seas 🌊

Bycatch is when marine wildlife is accidentally caught during fishing.

Every year, bycatch is estimated to impact:
🐦 10,000+ seabirds
🐬 1,000+ whales and dolphins
🦭 Around 500 seals
🦈 Protected sharks and rays
🐟 Endangered Atlantic salmon

The UK Government must act now with stronger protections and better monitoring before more wildlife is lost. Read the report πŸ‘‰ https://loom.ly/GipgQsA

πŸŽ₯ When BBC Springwatch came to Fedian Nature Reserve, in , they wanted to tell the story of our remarkable marsh fritillary butterflies.

But this is also George's story. His careful custodianship, as grazier over many years, has helped shape the rich mosaic of habitats that makes Fedian such a special place for wildlife.

What they didn't expect was George arriving on filming day with one eye swollen shut after a run-in with a bee...

In the latest Fedian blog, Giles Knight shares the reserve's first summer under Ulster Wildlife stewardship, from drone surveys revealing badgers, Irish hares and pine martens after dark, to hundreds of marsh fritillaries taking flight.

🌊 This World Oceans Day, we're looking ahead with hope.

Last summer, puffins returned to our Isle of Muck nature reserve, off Islandmagee, for the first time in 25 years.

This summer, we could see the island's first pufflings in a generation.

Healthy oceans provide the fish that puffins depend upon to raise their chicks, reminding us how connected our wildlife is to the health of our seas.
