Co-operation Ireland has created a new legacy page on its website; a space where past work continues to be of benefit to anyone interested in our history of peace building.

First up is Entwined Conversations which asks, how do we explore events that have shaped our island’s history and create space for conversations about what they mean for us today?

Building on Co-operation Ireland’s Entwined Histories and Entwined Futures programmes, Entwined Conversations brings together eight podcasts, developed in partnership with historian Jason Burke, exploring pivotal events from the decade of centenaries and the different perspectives that help us understand them.

Alongside the podcasts, we’ve developed educational resources to support teachers, youth workers and other professionals working with young people to explore complex and sometimes contentious aspects of our shared history, encourage informed discussion and listen to different perspectives.

This work builds on years of young people engaging with our history through film, dialogue and creative learning. It’s about more than understanding the past – it’s about helping young people make connections with the present and consider the society we want to shape for the future.

We are delighted to announce the perfect fit for this year’s The IPB Pride of Place Awards in association with Co-operation Ireland, as retired RTE broadcasting legend, Joe Duffy will take to the stage at the The Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) on October24th as Master of Ceremonies.

Nobody knows the heart and soul of communities better than the former radio presenter after decades of listening to and giving voice to people and their stories from all parts of Ireland on RTE’s Liveline.

Now he brings his trademark warmth and empathy to the biggest celebration of community effort which this year sees 108 nominations across a variety of projects making our island a better place to live, work and socialise.

A huge congratulations to all local council nominated groups. You are in safe hands with Joe at the helm of this year’s gala event hosted by Dublin City Council.

That’s a wrap on this year’s Pat Jennings Golf Classic fundraiser for Co-operation Ireland now in its 32 year. It took place at the stunning championship course at Royal County Down yesterday, hosted by Royal County Down Golf Club. The K-Team were the winners.

The competition was followed by an evening of fundraising and entertainment including a Q&A session in the Sleive Donard Hotel with footballing greats, Pat Jennings, Gerry Armstrong and Niall Quinn who gave a fascinating insight into the sometimes cut throat world of professional football.

A huge thank you to Janet Brennan bottom left for her exceptional skills in organising a flawless event and for Holly Simpson (both from Co-Operation Ireland’s fundraising team) for her help.

A fantastic event which would not have been possible without the ongoing support and friendship of football legend and all round gentleman, the amazing Pat Jennings.

Wow. Just wow. Fifteen minutes in and the live painting by Belfast artist, Stephen Walley is really taking shape.

Some very lucky person will have the chance tonight to own this fabulous contemporary piece by the artist whose distinctive work is collected across the world with celebrity clients including Snow Patrol and The Edge from U2.

All part of the fundraising extravaganza at the Sleive Donard Hotel at thus year’s Pat Jennings Golf Classic.

The evening celebrations are just beginning in the amazing Sleive Donard Hotel, Newcastle, for the Pat Jennings, Golf Classic after a day of golf and craic.

Pictured are golfer Gerry Magee, with friend, Larry Powell and Debbie Armstrong, wife of famous footballer, Gerry Armstrong.

Larry, a long time pal of Pat Jennings from the Newry days began supporting Co-operation Ireland in 1986 and is a founder of the golf fundraiser, which started at Warrenpoint Golf Clib over four decades ago.

Larry said: “Co-operation Ireland’s work is as vital today as it was all those years ago, especially in bringing communities together. I’ve been friends with Pat Jennings for 60 years and we’ve been on this journey of supporting Ireland’s leading peace building organisation all these years. Its work is vital.

After dinner, we’ll be hearing from the legendary goal keeper himself followed by auctions, raffles, music and craic.

Footballing greats have gathered today at Royal County Down Golf Club for the Pat Jennings Golf Classic fundraiser for Co-operation Ireland.

“Every year, I get the call from big Pat and I’m delighted to take part. This is my fifth year,” said Niall Quinn pictured left who travelled up from Kildare to play in the competition.

Niall is a former Irish professional footballer and sports television pundit who played top flight football for Arsenal, Manchester City and Sunderland.

He said:”Co-operation Ireland’s legacy grows every year and its work gets more important. I’m delighted to support the event and the great work carried out by Ireland’s leading peace building organisation.”

Pictured with Pat Jennings is another legend, the Northern Irish former footballer Gerry Armstrong from Tottenham Hotspur who is taking part in today’s competition in one of 34 teams. Most travelling in from England to play one of the most renowned courses in the world.

“This is a very special occasion which I’ve been playing for around 15 years. It’s such a worthy cause which I’m delighted to keep supporting”

Last but not least, the Volkswagen Golf star of the show donated by Donnelly Group up for grabs if any golfer gets a hole in one on the 14th.

Football legend Pat Jennings, pictured at Royal County Down Golf Club swapping his gloves from goalkeepers to golf.

‘I used to be a Par 6 but now it’s more like 26,’ says the man who has been giving his support to Co-operation Ireland for over 40-years.

The Pat Jennings Golf Classic, in itself, has been running for 32 years, give or take one or two, due to Covid.

This year 34 teams are taking part, many of whom have travelled from England to take on the world renowned championship course Royal County Down hosted by Royal County Down Golf Club.

Pat has supported Co-operation Ireland since the early years taking on multiple fundraising initiatives including the maracycle, vintage car rallies and walking challenges from Dublin to Belfast.

Asked why, he has supported Co-operation Ireland for over four decades, Pat’s answer is straightforward.

‘’I want to give back,” he said. “I believe in the work the organisation is doing in bringing communities together, not only in NI but across the island. This is about making it better for the next generation.”

On this day, in exactly two weeks time The Convention Centre Dublin will throw open its doors to welcome 800 guests at this year’s gala Insurance Awards in association with Co-operation Ireland.

But we’re not counting.

Invitees will be made up of volunteers, community groups and leaders, the island-wide council representatives who nominated them as well as special guests of Co-operation Ireland, our proud sponsor IPB and our host Dublin City Council.

This year is set to be extra special with IPB celebrating 100 years making it one of the most anticipated events of the calendar year.

Keep your eye on our social media pages this week as we will be announcing this year’s Master of Ceremonies, more about the awards and entertainment line up.
