WOMENSTEC

WOMENSTEC Training for women in non-traditional skills. WOMEN’STEC is the largest quality provider of training for women in non-traditional skills in Northern Ireland.

Based in Belfast, we enable women to return to employment in non-traditional sectors contributing to promoting a diverse workforce and reducing the skills shortage in the Construction and ICT industries. TEC stands for Training, Enterprise and Childcare, and WOMEN’STEC provides these supports to women, many of whom are socially and economically disadvantaged.

📣 Volunteers' Week 2026 | 1–7 June

As we celebrate Volunteers' Week, we want to take a moment to recognise and thank the amazing people who give their time, skills and energy to support our work.

A special thank you to Mary Catherine, who has been volunteering with us as a receptionist for the past two months. Mary has been a welcoming face for everyone coming through our doors, providing invaluable support to staff, participants and visitors alike.

Volunteers play a vital role in helping organisations like WOMEN'STEC create opportunities and support women across our community.

Hearing directly from participants is one of the best ways to understand the impact of WOMEN’STEC programmes.

Whether it’s gaining confidence using tools, learning practical DIY skills, or simply getting the chance to try something new alongside other women, these experiences matter.

Here are just a few reflections from women who have taken part in our courses.

As part of our Pathways+ programme, funded by the Department for the Economy NI, we recently organised a role model talk session at Blackwater Integrated College in Downpatrick.

Pathways+ aims to open up opportunities for girls and women in industries where they are traditionally underrepresented, including construction, engineering and mechanics. Through role model sessions, mentoring, workshops and industry engagement, the programme helps participants build confidence, develop skills and explore sustainable career pathways.

Students heard directly from women working across the industry, including our own WOMEN’STEC Tutor Joanne, who works as both a Mechanic and Joiner, Sophie from McAdam Design, and our Champions, Alison from Gleeds and Jordyn, Katelyn & Shauneen from Equans UK & Ireland.

A huge thank you to all of our speakers for sharing their experiences and helping inspire the next generation.
