📖 Former Ireland rugby international Andrew Trimble takes a look into the world of acclaimed author C.S. Lewis in a new documentary.

RTÉ has announced a new one-off film, The Lion, The Witch and the Ulsterman, airing on Thursday, 8 October at 10:15pm.

The former rugby star and theology graduate explores the Belfast upbringing and Ulster-Scots background of C.S. Lewis, asking why he is not more widely recognised as an Irish writer and uncovering the profound influence Ireland had on his life and work.

🦁 A description reads: "Trimble visits the Lewis family home in East Belfast and discovers how childhood trauma and his enforced departure from the city he loved shaped the rest of his life and became an enduring influence on his most famous works, The Chronicles of Narnia.

"The documentary also follows Andrew Trimble to Oxford, where Lewis spent most of his life, building a distinguished academic career and establishing himself as a broadcaster through his BBC radio talks. These broadcasts marked Lewis' first major step beyond academia and into public life."

🗣️ Speaking on the documentary, Andrew Trimble said: "C.S. Lewis is one of those rare writers whose work continues to resonate across generations.

"As a father, I've seen first-hand the joy that The Chronicles of Narnia brings to my own children, and that made this documentary particularly special for me.

"What surprised me most was the depth of Lewis's connection to Belfast and the lasting influence the city had on his life and imagination.

"As a fellow Belfast man, I was proud to explore his remarkable story and shine a light on the Irish roots of a writer whose work has inspired millions around the world."

Many thanks to James Brown & Sons Funeral Directors for funding to help create a family focused art project at Carew Family Centre.

We are pleased to announce that Carew Family Centre is one of the latest recipients of support from the James Brown & Sons Community Fund.

The funding will help bring families together through a collaborative community artwork project, creating a lasting piece designed by local families to celebrate their community and transform the outdoor space at the centre. The project will encourage creativity, connection and a sense of belonging for everyone involved.

Congratulations to everyone at Carew Family Centre. We look forward to seeing the finished artwork and the positive impact it will have on local families.

We have spaces available for a FREE Bat Walk and Talk with Wildlife Expert Aidan Crean, tomorrow night, 8th October at Victoria Park meeting at 6.30pm at the car park.

This family-friendly guided walk offers a unique opportunity to experience local wildlife up close while gaining insight into the important role bats play in our ecosystem.

If you can’t make tomorrow night, the same event is happening again on Thursday 15th October.

A new resource for Belfast’s Waterfront Promenade is now live! 💻

The Belfast Waterfront Promenade website brings together the Waterfront Promenade Framework, a joint vision for a connected promenade on both sides of the River Lagan, creating a waterfront that is better connected, more accessible and enjoyed by local people and visitors alike.

The website supports existing masterplans and includes the Framework’s character areas, design guidance, proposed interventions, inspiring ideas and resources. It provides information for stakeholders, communities, developers, designers and the wider public, helping to guide and support future projects.

Developed through the Waterfront Task Group, the Framework aims to contribute to a world-class waterfront for Belfast by balancing the needs of communities, nature and development.
